What would Burmistrov reasonably cost? Most Russian players feel comfortable in NYC. Could they work out a 2 year lower salary ala Grabner?

Gorton would be bringing in a player entering his prime with some upside left at a position of need. It would be a real good opportunity for him too as no matter the line he plays on, he will be playing with solid players. Theoretically Fast and Grabner could be 4th liners next season.

worth a shot 2 @ 2.5m?

Yes because a right handed Miller is worth McD lml

Trocheck is exponentially better than Miller. He is also cost controlled and will make the team better and be there when the window reopens. He is also younger than Miller, on a great contract and has proven he can play center full time.

Staal for Bjugstad is trading a rotten apple for a soggy sandwich. Bjugstad can't move anymore has injuries and is not a fit for the Rangers based on his skating deficiencies

I would rather save the money for the impact players and just sign a whole host of players like last year with Pirri/Gerbe etc. and see who works out.

Worked out well with Grabner.

Grabner has almost never been a 4th line player. He had one down year in Toronto.

His points/60 the last 5 years has been:
1.86 (this season)
0.91
1.95
1.63
1.89
1.61

That's not a 4th line player. It's a guy who had one bad year which happened to be in the last year of his deal.

Trocheck is not exponentially better than JT Miller. If anything they're equivalent, and they're the same age. Miller is 4 months older than Trocheck, don't spin that as if they weren't in the same draft class.

We'll lock JT up to a similar deal after this season.

It really is.

Hes also 3 months younger than Miller

Yes so he is younger. And what would be wrong with a better, right handed JT Miller who has proven that he is a full time center and is under contract until 2022 with a 4.75 cap hit. Also one that stays out of the coach's doghouse.

That is one of the best contracts in the league and would be a great Stepan replacement. Plus Rangers would likely be able to get more from Florida

I'd take a platter of gas station sushi over that particular rotten apple.

so you want to trade a top left defenseman in the league for a redundancy?

He absolutely is. Trocheck multiple 50+ point seasons on a worse team and has proven that he can play center full time. Miller does not deserve that deal yet.

Oh they sure better get a lot more from florida. they probably wouldn't take a staal back so picks, picks and more picks. Without Mcd this team should just legitimately tank. It would make zero sense to spend money on shatty or even smith. Good luck Hank lol.

Likely?

We live in a world where Adam Larsson returned Taylor Hall and Travis Hamonic returned a 1st and 2 2nds. You're damn right McDonagh would return more, hes much better than those 2 guys.

A few months makes no difference. It's not like JT miller was out there skating before Trocheck learned how to crawl. Stop it, this is goofy nonsense.

And making a move just because a player gets in his coaches doghouse (which isn't even relevant anymore) would be pretty short sided. AV may not be here in a year.

You're right, just calling it horrible isn't going far enough.

McDonagh for Trocheck is atrocious and would literally be one of the worst trades of all time.

If it's 1 for 1 it is, but Trocheck is one of the best centers that the Rangers can get using McDonagh. Paying over 7m to McDonagh into his 30s on a rebuilding Rangers team would be one of the worst contracts of all time.

If Miller was on Florida would you consider trading McD for him a good return?

I wouldn't.

Again after free agency may change my mind, but if Shattenkirk isn't coming, there is no reason to sign Smith, or pretend that they aren't rebuilding. May as well get a good return.
