Surely with Lindberg gone, the odds that Stepan goes become lower.

Our centre depth would be gutted.

Unless the plan is to get a young center with a high ceiling back as one of the main pieces and address the defense with the new found cap room.

Notice how everyone is trading 2019 picks, instead of 2018. Smart.

VGK tanking for the Young GOAT.

Their team looks awful.

Gusev-Shipachyov-Neal
Leipsic-Marchessault-Tuch
Eakin-Lindberg-Smith
Bellemare-Haula-Karlsson
Perron

Methot-Miller
McNabb-TVR
Schmidt-Theodore
Schlemko

Fleury
Pickard
Berube

or you could just do the unthinkable thing here and somehow replace a 4C and carry on with all business Stepan ordinarily.

The Rangers are stronger as a result of the expansion draft. They aren't playing against last year's Rangers that had Lindberg, they are playing against teams that lost much better players. A 4C is easy to replace.

IDK, GMGM seems to be stocking up on future assets. Doesn't appear to be concerned with this year. Could change, I suppose, but doesn't seem likely.

He's building a cheap tank roster and buying himself as long of a leash as possible.

Kind of funny that the NHL's plan to have a better expansion team backfired. Good luck selling tickets in Vegas. New money pit for the owners to claim next lockout.

They'll be fine this year and possibly year 2 or 3 due to the novelty factor. I think their plan is to have a good/great team with all the assets they're acquiring for when that novelty factor wears off.

Vegas got 2017 1st, 2019 2nd, William Karlsson to take on Clarkson. It likely would have cost our 21st this year and a 2nd round pick in 2019, one of Lindberg, Fast or Raanta to make it work. A part of it was Vegas did stay away from players CBJ wanted to keep so we'd likely be able to choose which roster player to send them but Staal's $5.7 for 4 more years with full NMC is worse than Clarkson's 3 years at $5.25.

Either Gorton knew the asking price and wasn't going to consider it or he didn't consider it because he believes in Staal, still.
