If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

CJ said the leafs off-season is gonna be long and drawn out. Moves and transactions might not take place until August

Next few weeks gonna be boring then
In other words, prepare for us to do absolutely nothing but jettison players and then come in after the FA crop is 99% gone and dumpster dive.

He's closer than you think.

And he won't cripple your cap set up when he declines.

If he's taking PEDs to help with recovery now, it's likely not the best indication he's going to be good for 7 more years, if that's what it takes.
If he returns to the player he was in Nashville he will cripple your cap. At least with Ekblad he’s likely going to decline due to injuries and probably ends up on LTIR before he’s an anchor.

Equal risk with both.

He also partnered with Josi, and was good.

Just because Trotz is a bad GM doesn't mean we should hold it against Fabbro.

Last 3 off-seasosn were long and drawn out with nothing happening for the Leafs. The guy just can't get anything done roster management wise I guess
He's going to lose any trade he makes that isn't a straight rental

Treliving avoids trades actively because he gets destroyed whenever he makes a deal ultimately.

His two biggest trades as a leaf have been horrible so far

1) Laughton + 4th and 6th (Kampf 2.0) for a 1st + Greb (valued around a 2nd or 3rd)

2) Carlo with retention for 1st + Minten (valued at a 2nd maybe a low 1st).

All his other deals were small rental adds in Lyub and Edmunson

He doesnt have the ability to make good target additions and always fails. He will go bargain bin shopping in UFA and try to build a team with early to mid 30s UFAs

I like Grebenkin as much as the next guy and think he's an absolute wild man but where is the 2nd/3rd value coming from?

I'm not sure there is much more than a guy like Klim Kostin there and he's a non-tender.

Greb played his first NA hockey season and had 28 pts in 50 games.

He was only 22 years old for this season and impressed the leafs enough to give 7 NHL games.

Fraser Minten played his 20 year old season and had 20 pts in 37 AHL games.

I didnt see much difference between the two players besides 2 years age gap. Similar third line prospect upside with 1 being a feisty W and other being a defensive 3C

Minten was valued as a 2nd or late 1st based on what people said here at time of trade + Bruins fans opinion of him.

Greb is likely lower value but can't see him being worth lower than a 3rd at the worst in a trade. He's young and productive enough to be a legitimate prospect still and not a throw in guy who will wash out of NA hockey like Kostin soon (whose like 26 and likely has topped out on value now vs back in 2023 for the Oilers at 23 he had a good year and got a good deal at 2M+ off that)

Yeah, there is no point in discussing this one further but no one is on board with this. I say this respectfully but when you have ideas (which are normal to have) and the response from multiple people are telling you no, re-evaluate.

I throw out tons of crap on this board and sometimes it's a discussion, you can tweak things etc or sometimes upon reflection, I had a really bad take/idea.

This is one of your bad ideas, it's fine, you come with good ideas too sometimes but a #4 RD like Carlo is something we've looked for, for a long time.
All of his ideas are bad ideas. He's a stats geek, nothing more.

Taking a shot in the dark on a guy who’s been a mediocre 3rd pair defenseman for 2 of the last 3 years at 5M has just as much risk
I just see him as better than that (3rd pair guy), but hey, it is what it is.

I'm quite sure that most Nashville fans will say that it was mostly due to Brunette having an issue with him.

You can't use your cap appropriately if you're giving Marchand 9M. The idea not resigning Marner is to get better depth, not use it all on a 38 year old that doesn't PK or playing tons of minutes.

People seemgliny forgot about the Marleau fiasco.
I want Marchand badly. But there's no way he's worth any more than a top of $7 million x 3, heavily front loaded, so the buyout is cheap.
