Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Opinions will change with new information. Right now, it's looking really bad.

A lot of good and bad over the years, sure.

Treliving still hasn't made an offseason roster trade since being here.

Yeah, I don't think that "no trade" thing will go much longer at least.

I was gonna say let's wait until July 10th but wouldn't be surprised if we were making moves right up until closer to training camp opening.

Anyone who says this should not be allowed to comment on playoff performances and people not producing well.

Marchment has more playoff goals in the last 3 years (his Dallas Stars tenure) than Marner does in the last 3 years.

If you let Marner dig into 4 years back, he ties Marchment for goalsand for the low low price of more than double Marchment's salary. Is it wrong to have expectations when a player is the 2nd highest paid winger in the league?

Feel free to defend this all you want.

It is, I really dont want him on the team.

Sucks we couldn't find a way to win and look like we will have to resort to bringing in Marchand a guy we have all hated and whose owned us bad.

Id rather just go the CAR approach and sign a bunch of 3rd liners for 1-2 year deals at reasonable cap hits then give a gross over pay to any UFA this year.
No way I pay Marchand 9 million.
Florida already won a Cup when they traded for Marchand to help with a repeat. They had a successful foundation. We don’t even know what this team will look like when Marner walks. Seems like a bad idea waiting to happen at a high price.

If he doesn't make any form of moves beforetraining camp, id call that a pretty significant problem.

Jesus, I've never been more terrified of a UFA period as much as this one in my life

The players are meh at best, going to get wildly overpaid and we've got a truckload of cap space to light on fire

That's a bad mix, honestly I'd much rather have gone in on a trade for a kid like Zegras who's younger, has some upside but has some contract certainty even if we had to give up some picks. The kid has warts.but he's got talent

Perry is very relevant to the Marchment argument, thank you.

Okay, so back to Marchment.

He makes 4.5M and managed in the last 3 years to score the same amount of playoff goals than Marner in 4 years.

4.5M x 3 = 13.5M
10.93 x 4 = 43.72M

Amazing value eh?

I am the furthest thing from a Marner defender but Marchessault and Kreider have more playoff goals than MacKinnon over the last 3 years. What are we trying to prove?

The only thing amazing is how terrible this argument is... assists are also a thing...

I'm not even sure what a comparable deal for Zegras looks like with Toronto.

But there are a few other guys like that available, whether they're on Treliving's radar is another question.

Not as terrible as the goal production but that's not convenient.

Don't bother weighing in on this stuff again lol.

Last time your attempt at making the Leafs out to be the under dogs in every single playoff series they were in was laughable.

That is false, but they have been underdogs in most... but when in doubt, lie.

Toronto was activity trying to win in those years. When team's rebuild they normally tank and suck on purpose and don't try to dress a good roster. That wasn't what Toronto was doing when they got Moe, Nylander, Marner lol.

The only time they activity tried to suck is when we got Matthews, and then made the playoffs the next year. How often does the last place team make it to the playoffs the next year? I'm going to assume not very often.

What I'm trying to say is, rebuilding very rarely happens how we did it, and sometimes doesn't work at all.
Leafs also got lucky in 15-16 that there were no really terrible teams. Every other team hit 30 wins that season.
