Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Our season ended on May 18th, it’s June 24th and we’re still sitting here with literally nothing.

Can someone let Treliving know he needs to work?

Biz thinks we're signing Marchand based on some source.

Not sure if he has any sources but I think he did call the Berube hiring before really anyone else.

4 x 9 seems like a terrible deal.

I don’t think so. He will be exactly what the organization needs. Despite the fact that I don’t think we can win Tre will keep trying. We are paying Reeves, Kampf, Jarnkrok and Domi basically that much. And Marchand will make more of an impact than all of them combined.

You never know Florida could have an off year.

t's tough to say on how any player ages or how well they are going to be, but suddenly Marchand at age 37 has a resurgence in the playoffs and was dominate. Elite players generally tend to be good/elite for a long time.
They could...

However, I think you would want the core to be around the age Matthews and Nylander are now, if you look at the ages of the top players from past Cup winners.

Yes, half the team's in the division have been bad, but on the flip side the Atlantic the past 7/8 years has been the hardest division. Tampa, Florida, Boston, Toronto have all pretty much been dominate.
With Florida in that group, it's only been about four years since they had their 120-point season, if we're being specific.

What's the difference, wouldn't it still be 9 against the cap?
You would kick the bonus money to the next year in overages, and with the cap going up, it would be less of a strain.

Also, if he doesn't achieve the bonus, for whatever reason, the cap hit will hopefully be less of an issue because if it's an injury issue, I don't think we can bury him on LTIR, given that he signed over the age of 35.

Uhh no. They've been squarely in their prime for a long time, and are closer to exiting their primes than entering them.

Don't let me get in the way of your optimism though - by all means feel that way.
Really? I'd beg to differ. I'd say age 27-33 is their prime window. Know the league, know how to play both ends of the ice. Stronger etc.

Hard for a young player in the league to be a dominate two way force.

Thanks, admittedly I don't know much about the various cap rules.

Wouldn't Marchand have enough suitors that he wouldn't need to sign anything but a guaranteed contract?

How are the Leafs not in on Hertl??

$9 mill AAV for Marchand over 4 years??

Wtf is Brad doing? If the Canes get him for nothing then I’m on the fire Treviling wagon.
3 team player list that Hertl can get traded too. If Toronto isn't on that list, what can you do... If Toronto is on that list, then they most definitely should be kicking tires on him.

Also take the Marchand rumor with a grain of salt.
