There are only a couple of spots and it’s better than wasting money on FA.
after seeing what Nelson got, and being better than Nelson, it doesnt help.
if we let him walk though, it will be a tough refill spot
CJ said Sam Bennett’s contract with the Panthers is as good as done. Ekblad is basically begging the Panthers to re-sign him so I don’t see him going anywhere and will probably sign at a discount.
Marner
Bennett
Karlsson
Duchene
Ekblad
Marchment
Ehlers (wants a quite market)
It is slim picking in free agency…
I can’t say I have much faith in Treliving to do anything creative.
I’d rather a hungry player than a guy that’s on his retirement contract like some of the names we’re hearing.I'd rather have NHL players on the NHL team.
Maybe the reason they’ve played this long is because of that fire and grit that’s necessary to winI’d rather a hungry player than a guy that’s on his retirement contract like some of the names we’re hearing.
He’ll be 31 and looking to get paid more than McDavid on an 8 year deal that takes him through his age 38 season. It’s best for both parties if he walks when his next deal is up.I wouldn’t be shocked if Matthews leaves and follows Marner in 3 years
Why wait, he can ask to leave asap imo. It’s obvious by his “too many passengers” comment that he’s delusional and can’t admit it’s not his teammates that choked, it’s the guy in the mirror. The sooner Captain Arrogant is gone the better…..I wouldn’t be shocked if Matthews leaves and follows Marner in 3 years
I would be shocked if he stayed to be honest. By then we would have gotten 11 years out of himI wouldn’t be shocked if Matthews leaves and follows Marner in 3 years
Rather trade him and get some assets back before his game completely falls off a cliff, but that won’t happen……He’ll be 31 and looking to get paid more than McDavid on an 8 year deal that takes him through his age 38 season. It’s best for both parties if he walks when his next deal is up.
I think this is a possibility the summer before the last year on his deal. It depends where the team is. If Tre screws this summer up they probably miss the playoffs by 2027.Rather trade him and get some assets back before his game completely falls off a cliff, but that won’t happen……
I agree. As soon as Marner gets set up somewhere I’d approach Matthews before the 3 years is up and asks if he’d like to join him.Why wait, he can ask to leave asap imo. If a bad season means a step back and it leads to the likes of 34, 88, and 44 waiving to get out of Dodge, well that would be better than qualifying for the playoffs. Nothing changes without change…….I think this is a possibility the summer before the last year on his deal. It depends where the team is. My wet dream would be them being able to do a sign and trade on Marner with Captain Arrogant being part of the package, now that would be like winning the lottery……..I agree. As soon as Marner gets set up somewhere I’d approach Matthews before the 3 years is up and asks if he’d like to join him.
Imagine looking at the spoiled & petulant Matthews/Marner/Nylander, and then looking at the arrogant Zegras and thinking he would've developed better with that group. What??Honestly maybe playing around some veterans like Matthews, Tavares, Rielly, etc, Zegras would have developed a better overall game. I definitely wouldn’t have been against giving him a shot, who knows he could have developed into a key offensive player.
Given our lack of quality draft picks, our bare prospect pool and having an aging NHL roster, that would have been a good player to bet on IMO.
Any pick after 15 isn't worth the assets, unless Carter Bear falls past 20 or so, which is possible due to the nature of his injury (partial Achilles tear)Hard to keep track, but from what I gather from Twitter etc, a lot of teams are dangaling their 1st round pick, especially with it being a weaker draft.
