I never said that he's going to Vegas to gamble his life away.

Not that I enjoy Treliving being non existent, but I think Zegras would be the opposite type of player we are looking for.

We will be saying this about every player soon. He went for relative peanuts compared to his potential and skill level.

The kind of buy low player we need to be chasing. Marchment and now Zegras. Tik tok.

our biggest issue is scoring goals, and JT scores goals, and wins faceoffs.
the DNA can be fixed elsewhere, and JT being a life long Leafs fan and bleeding blue isnt a DNA issue either.
it would be near impossible to replace his production at #2C

Marner may be all the DNA change we need

I remember reading/hearing a few years back that McDavid would not sign with the Leafs as long as Marner was here. ...well, thats pretty much over now.
JT apparently bleeds blue and white until he needs to sign a team friendly deal, I don’t blame him for wanting a overpayment, it’s what the core does, but that bleeds nlue and white bullshit is exactly that, bullshit……..

Let's say Glass is 2.5M and 12M combined for Marchand+Tavares. Then they trade Woll+Cowan for Tippett+Hathway.

Domi-Matthews-Tippett
Knies-Glass-Nylander
Marchand-Tavares-McMann
Tanev-Laughton-Hathaway

I dont think $12 million gets us Marchand and Tavares. Marchand is going to be $7-8 million. I assume as always anything with the Leafs would have a Leafs tax so I could see him wanting even more from Toronto to come here.

Tavares and Leafs sound like they are far apart. Leafs are thinking Duchene Money, Tavares wants more than Nelson. I suspect Brad gave him a lowball offer because he doesn't want him back.

If I had to overpay, I would rather overpay someone new than Tavares.

Given the Leafs "window" if we can call it that, they may be better off looking at Courturier or Konecny rather than Tippett and Gathaway. I dont think we have any actual assets we can trade for them though since we have no picks or prospects lol. Not sure Cowan, OEL, Robertson get it done.

I'll respectfully disagree. I think moving just one guy is scapegoatism at its worst...

It also begs the question: if there were other options, would that make it more likely to move on from Tavares, and what does that say about him?

It's a rare scenario, but I think in this case, change almost for the sake of it is a better option because at least you're not locked into the same guy who's been here for so much disappointment.

I also think that for him, it would be a better choice to get a new start at more money and go be the Marleau in Utah or even San Jose, where he nearly signed before.
I'd argue moving on from a top 5 right winger is a pretty seismic change & shock. Hopefully it wakes some other people up if he can moved on from, none of them are safe. I don't think it's scapegoatism.

Change is good, but only when it makes sense. Moving on from Marner makes sense because to retain him they have to invest 13.5m a season, or 100m over 8 years. Tavares is/should be 5m yearly. It's also a lot easier to replace a winger then a center, Toronto needs to be smart about it still.

It's also easier said then done. I don't think it's easy to uproot yourself to a different place with 3 kids and a wife who works in Toronto. I'll keep maintaining my stance, Tavares should be brought back only if it's below market value.

Pageau's cap hit is 5 million, the Leafs havent even offered Tavares 5 mil, and we sure as heck shouldnt be paying a 3C 5 mil!! Even at 1/2 price, he's still a small, and underwhelming player.
Completely disagree, if the Islanders will retain some dollars you obtain him, no question. JT’s gone or Bubbles is going to be taken to the woodshed like hus predecessor……..

No mention of hockey.
Vegas metro Population is about 1/3 of the GTA.
Probably much less stress.
You are a very good tribute to Nevada tourism, but I still don't respect Marner. I still think he's lame for going there.

I've been to Nevada / Arizona. I see all the wonderful reasons to be there, but I don't think Marner and his Range Rover will be taking trips to the Cactus Museum.

Reading the tea leaves from the media. 8Mx3 appears to be the 3 years number, at 4 years it might be closer to 6.5Mx4.

I still think Tavares signs the Tanev deal 4.5Mx6.

Well, Toronto tried to get Marchment and that was a player they wanted, but failed for whatever reason. Apparently trading him to another tax-free state was important to Nill since he took a discount.

But the player personal between Marchment and Zegras is night and day. I think Toronto is done with soft 1 style of play forwards.

Mirtle said today that Marchment would have preferred Toronto to Seattle which means Toronto didn't match the offer of a 3rd and a 4th.

Marner is a clown.

Going to VGK?

f*** him. He's so cliche. I should have been harder on him during his time in TOR.

He will no doubt be the biggest booing target in leafs history.
His vanishing act in the playoffs won’t age well in Vegas, he ain’t getting a NMC there imo or a very limited one if at all……

It is, but it's not enough at this point; maybe three years ago, if they had done something.

Well, I hope they are smart with it and follow through with it.

Well, I can empathize about as much as possible with the guy who made nearly $100m in his playing career...

More for his kids than him, really...

I'm very curious if Knies gets a offer sheet if it doesn't get done before July 1st.
Me too. I think that it almost certainly happens in this market. If I'm the Kings or Canes I'd happily pay the 4x (late) 1sts and cap hit it would take to get him out of Toronto.

And a rival team could offer something in the 2x 1sts, 1x 2nd & 3rd range that would get matched but make the Leafs cap situation tough

The Tanev deaal would be manageable and I think Leafs nation would appreciate Tavares knowing he could get double elsewhere and chose to stay. I think if he was going to take this it would have been done by now. Maybe Brad is kicking tires on some other options first?

I dont think he will. Offer sheets are few and far in between. Knies would make sense though since teams know Toronto doesnt have our picks so there is no risk of retaliation for the time being.

We'd need to land Ekblad for me to be okay with that because otherwise it's another hole.

I wonder if he would have interest in Toronto? He may be what Rielly needs.
