Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

The more I look at Sam Bennett, his career, his temperament and how he fits into the cats lineup, the more I want to roll the dice on Domi at 2C.

And if we're going to spend on another RW to line up with Matthews then I want Boeser. Big body that can shoot AND pass, decent cycle game.

Nothing figuratively. Not nothing literally.

Few picks.
Few valuable prospects.
Few roster players who are both expendable and valuable.

We still have enough to make a move of substance.

Probably not for a true impact player but a pretty good player nontheless.

I don't think Domi is consistent enough or good enough defensively to play center.

They’re not getting a Brayden Point type player in a trade for Cowan, however, there’s a chance Cowan just might be that type of player, so there’s no way I would trade him today.

Knies, Cowan, and Woll are a start. Find the #1 D and just maybe they will have a core to build around.

Matthews and Nylander are the logical choices and would get a great return, but they won’t move them.
Next would be Stolarz, Mo, and Tanev. Edmonton needs a goalie and might give up something decent, if they have anyone worth acquiring.

Knies-Matthews-Boeser
Mangiapane-Cirelli-Nylander
Marchand-Tavares-Cowan
Lorentz-Laughton-McMann/Patches/Tanev

Playoffs:
Knies-Matthews-Boeser
Mangiapane-Cirelli-Nylander
Marchand-Tavares-Patches
Lorentz-Laughton-McMann/Tanev
Cowan* (get him games at home and rest Patches when needed)

D-core
McCabe-Tanev
OEL-Ekblad/Dobson (Rielly traded)
Benoit-Carlo

If Rielly can't be traded then run the same d-core

Question: how long can McCabe and Tanev hold the fort before father time eventually catches up with them? We don't have anything in the minors to replace D

How on earth are you acquiring Cirelli without giving up Nylander? Lol

Adding Cirelli+Dobson without subtracting a roster player would be pretty tidy work by Tre.

I don't think Domi is consistent enough or good enough defensively to play center.
He has an objectively better body of work as a top 6 C than Bennett did prior to Florida. It's a while back but he won his minutes doing the job in Montreal. No won since has given the reins other than a dogshit Chicago team.

They should run 88 as the second line centre, he’s paid like a first line centre let him earn it, Domi can slot in the third centre spot if JT’s greed makes him a hard pass………

Would Cirelli wave his NTC to go to Toronto? Would Willie waive his to go to Tampa?

Not sure how I forgot about him. Not sure we’d be able to afford him in the lineup if we want to carry a 13th forward though with extra cap charges from Pacioretty, Reaves and Benning. If we’re fine with just carrying an extra defender, 100% I’d rather have Cowan develop in the AHL than rush him and have McMann play alongside Tavares and Raddysh. Gives the lineup even more speed.

A second line of Knies - Cirelli - Bjorkstrand though would be unreal. All in for that.

.
I think there would be a really good chance both players accept to waive. Cirelli is from Toronto and Nylander just seems like he’d be perfectly fine waiving for a Florida team.
i don’t know if Cirelli would be too keen on the idea.
Willie may like playing with Hedman and they likely won’t have anymore long playoff runs which would be appealing to him.

Lower key "DNA" type move, Niemela/Hirvonen + 4th for Acciari at 50%. Low cap hit replacement for Kampf, right shot pk capable C that plays much more physical. Has played for Berube

I suppose we would have a ton of cap space without Tavares, Marner, and Nylander.
