If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

So much for wanting to soooo badly play for your hometown team, that’s just a soundbite when money’s involved. I hope he’s gone, the greedy DNA has got to stop…….
How dare he expect more than $4M after scoring 38g:laugh: If he walks I will be disappointed but I love that Treliving is finally showing some guts.

Does anyone have a stat of how many points Tavares got on the power play this year?
He was 38th among forwards for even strength ppg so really a pretty strong season 5 on 5 . His best since Babcock. Of course he was dead weight in playoff offense but that basically happened right after the Zub KO so you can look at it as he wasn'r quite 100% after that or that he just got exhausted after game 4. I am hoping it was the hit and that he just didn't randomly fade.

The point of replacing Marner isn’t about finding another Marner — we won’t. It’s about using his money to bring in three or four smart, impactful forwards to improve our overall depth. With all the resources the Leafs have, you'd expect their pro scouting department to be more than capable of identifying those kinds of players. They did a great job with last year’s free agent class (Tanev/OEL/Stolarz/Lorentz/Pacioretty)

The Winnipeg Jets were the front-runners for Jonathan Toews from the get-go.

His relationship with Jets chairman Mark Chipman was a big part of it, and Toews’ desire to play for his hometown team was a natural allure.

But that doesn’t mean that his camp, led by agent Pat Brisson, didn’t talk to other teams once it was announced May 29 that Toews was 100 percent coming back. The Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs were among the 15 teams that spoke with Brisson about their interest in Toews.

The Leafs are dying to find the keys to a deeper playoff path, and Toews would have been a wonderful addition from that perspective. It was a no-brainer for general manager Brad Treliving to poke his nose in there, but the Leafs got the sense early it was Winnipeg or Colorado for Toews.

The young Habs could have used Toews’ Stanley Cup-winning experience, too, to be sure.

The Avs are trying to find their way back to another Stanley Cup, and adding Toews to that talented mix would have put him in a position where he didn’t have to lead but could find a way to become impactful. Colorado was seriously interested, had a chance to talk with Toews and felt it had a good role for him — don’t forget Charlie Coyle could have easily slid over to wing — but ultimately it was the runner-up.

I like JT, but if the team is going to change the more of the core that’s removed the better, easy to walk from 16 and 91, harder part is trading 44, 88, and most importantly Captain Arrogant………

Weird name, but Kotkaniemi seems like he may be a buyout candidate as he is so cheap.
Any interest in bringing him in to play 3W/4C beside Tavares? He is fast, and can swap out some defensive C duties with Tavares as he continues to slow down.

Another guy (who may not be qualified) is Morgan Barron. 6'4 C/W, 5th fastest top speed among forwards in the playoffs, and 7th most 22+ bursts. Is 26, and could be a good 'bulldog' who still has some potential untapped upside.
These are the kind of players Bubbles should be looking at, diamonds in the rough……..

Wouldn't add anything to McMann. If the Nucks want him then 1 for 1 otherwise pass.

Leafs are looking to be a mess very soon. Let's just keep our picks and draft boom/bust prospects at this point.

Don't blow more assets to tinker for a poorly built team
I’d still go all in until Matthews contract is up unless there’s a way to move him.

Nowhere close to the same impact

Am I the only one who wants to see Captain Arrogant playing elsewhere next season? I’m sure he could return two impactful players, maybe more…….

Excellent news on Tavares. Every one of the core 4 moving on out of here brings a big smile to my face.

Don't even care if we miss the playoffs. I can't cheer for this group of players anymore and you guys are absolutely batshit crazy if you think you're going to get any other result with this core at this point.

Its a Leafs or Florida league at this point, with Florida easily the better team if they sign their ufas. Crazy how many people are set on blowing up the Leafs. If Stolarz didnt get injured we dont blow game 3 either.

I mean, they had Brad f***ing Marchand on their 3rd line and added a trade deadline D like nothing who can play 25+ mins. Relax and pay JT

I wonder if Dallas has the appetite for a Laughton, Matthews, Carlo for Johnston, Robertson and Dumba swap. The Leafs then swap JRob for Dobson. Saves Dallas 1.5M in cap space. Leafs eat the Dumba contract for 1 year (in the minors) and pick up WyJo and Dobson to build younger.

Swap Nylander+McMann for Cirelli+Bjorkstrand and go forward with a core of Knies/Johnston/Cirelli/Dobson.

If they were to build this way I’d be looking to sell off all short-term assets (McCabe, Stolarz, OEL, Bjorkstrand) and shoot for a big UFA or 2 next summer and try to win a cup then.

I’d still sign Marchand, Tanev and Mangiapane.

Looking at LA's depth chart and if Gavrikov leaves in free agency, their left side looks extremely weak.

Who was it Friedman that said they could see us making a trade where we ship a D for a F?

I proposed OEL for Moore on the main board which was unanimously accepted by Kings fans but with the rumors of Mangiapane and Marchand to Toronto I don’t see the fit for another LS winger.

Pierre Lebrun is reporting that Tavares and Toronto aren’t close

Brisson says the market has “shifted” after seeing what’s out there

“Unless there was a lot of term attached to it, there’s no way Tavares signs for $5 million a year with the Leafs,” LeBrun said. “It’s gonna have to be more than that.”

If JT isn't willing to take a team friendly deal, it’s time to move on. Like Marner, we have not won anything with these guys leading the way anyways. Dvorak is someone I would turn my focus on for the 3C position, good two-way, good speed, great in the face-off circle, etc. Obviously not nearly as good as JT but he’ll be a lot cheaper allowing us to distribute money better throughout the lineup.

He can take all his man purses with him.

He’s not the franchise player we needed. We needed a guy like Crosby and we got a Matthews
So which Crosby would you have taken with that first overall pick? Sucks cheering for a player that scores 60+ goals. Gets a hundred points. Number 1 centre that plays a great 2 way game. Does he need to do more in the playoffs? Absolutely but give your head a shake.

Matthews bled this team for every penny and then took a 4 year deal instead of an 8. He won all the negotiations and guys like Crosby were taking far more team friendly deals he did the opposite.

He’s a ghost in the playoffs. Don’t worry. I was shaking my head after watching his playoff performance

Don’t forget not doing shit in the playoffs over multiple years and throwing his teammates under the bus when he was the real floater for yet another playoff……

I find it interesting that so many opposing fans say we have nothing to trade.

Easton Cowan is a good prospect and very likely to become at least a solid NHL player.

Not saying we should trade him but if he was made available, there would definitely be teams interested in acquiring him.

Like imagine you offered some team Easton Cowan, Ben Danford and Nick Robertson. That's some nice young talent.
