Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

I'd like to move Matthews and Carlo for the Hughes brother in New Jersey.
Re-sign Luke for 4*$5mm, take him to age 25.

That balances the dollars for Matthews, and leaves $7.5mm

That leaves enough for Bennett or Marchand.

Sign Quinn in 2 years.

Move Rielly for Andersson, Flames might be having issues re-signing Rasmus.

Just ignoring the NMC's but Matthews gets to play for Keefe again.

Hate to break it you, any Matthews trade probably looks more like the Timo Meier trade unless Matthews gives the leafs 6-7 destinations.

Anyways, this is kind of pointless. Matthews is in Toronto right now, I think he's secretly enthused that they're moving a different direction.

Reactions: TML Dynasty
Knies - Matthews - Boeser
Marchand - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Domi - Mangiapane
Tanev - Laughton - Raddysh
Lorentz/Holmberg

Kampf/Jarnkrok/Robertson out for whatever picks you can get

Keep Robertson if you can’t get Marchand

If Tavares doesn't come back (which it's starting to seem like that could be possible) Signing Granlund and acquiring Danault somehow would be incredible.
Honestly.. even if Tavares is resigned... Granlund would not be the worst addition. He can be an ideal Nylander centre, and when you want to load up, put JT with Willy.

If you want to have a dedicated shutdown line... put Granlund with Jarnkrok.

That being said, i feel like Granlund is staying in Dallas.

Granlund also can play wing. So he’s a versatile piece. I’d be very interested

Yeah, he has a NMC.

Just like Rielly, and it's up to the player(s) whether they want to move.

Cap hit: 94.75M

This is assuming Tavares won't take a discount.

Would it be out of the question to take a step back? After this year the only forwards we have locked in are AM, WN, MD and Kampf. The cap is rising and not only will the team have a ton of it, but the UFA crop will be a lot more attractive. Nobody outside of the top 4 or 5 guys this year move the needle. Throwing money around this year - which is undoubtedly a year where the rising cap will force huge overpayments - seems reactionary.

-Sign Knies
-Sign hardworking wingers like Mangiapane and Eyssimont.
-Play Cowen sheltered minutes on the third line.
-Eat the 1st to Chicago and hope for a wild card spot EDIT: Boston, which obviously makes it less palatable, but it's top 10 protected.

Go into the 26/27 season with a shit ton worth of cap and start fresh

So Leafs going in another direction then.

I'm fine and it leads me back to what I've been suggesting.

Sign multiple middle 6 players (centers) and lunch box it.

And all these waiving NMC fantasies are mostly a huge joke.

Who are the middle 6 centers available in UFA? Christian Dvorak… Jack Roslavic if you think he can play center…

Brad Marchand-Auston Matthews-Max Domi
Matthew Knies-Charlie Coyle-William Nylander
Tyler Bertuzzi-Christian Dvorak-Jack Roslovic
Brandon Tanev-Scott Laughton-Tanner Jeannot

Extra Max Paciotetty

Say what you want about Tavares but he produced at an elite level for a 2C this season and that's going to be bloody difficult to replace, especially when it looks like Marner and his 100 points are walking out the door for nothing

Were going to need scoring and a 75 point 2C certainly helps that

I'd offer JT the Tanev contract, 4.5M×6
I think that's fair to both sides

I'm also thinking that Matthew's and Knies need to carry a cost effective linemate so we can invest down the lineup, it wouldn't hurt if JT and Nylander could do the same so we can really sort out the bottom 6

I wish they didn’t trade our 2026 1st rounder if they had plans like a reset in mind. But I don’t hate the idea

They could recapture some picks and prospects by signing a guy like Perry and trade them at the deadline.

There must be something in the room that Berube has picked up on. I have heard Kypreos say there is entitlement with Tavares. Basically he expects to be on PP1 which is where he gets alot of points. He’s not nearly as effective 5 on 5

Perhaps it’s a blessing to reset and have Marner and Tavares walk to get the right culture going
