Controversial trade idea:
Toronto
Woll
Robertson
Edmonton
S. Skinner
E. Kane
2nd in 2026
Why Toronto does it
-E. Kane won't be free. He played quite well in the playoffs before he shit the bed in the cup finals. An intense power forward at a 5.1 caphit for one year will garner some interest from a bunch of teams. We need to give something up. We need him though. One of the few "trade low" options left. If he's a prick, don't sign him next summer.
-Woll is good, but is he really that much better than Skinner? Sell high. Edmonton may see him as a big upgrade. They're very desperate. Woll is also injury prone and clearly a step below Stolarz. Sign Stolarz for a few years to match our contention window. We have some money now. We can pay him. Also, Skinner is only 26. He had some brilliant games and some absolute stinkers. He has the potential to be a very solid goalie as he keeps maturing. Maybe different scenery would help him too. I can imagine how intimidating it was facing McDrai in the locker room. He's probably built some mental toughness through those experiences.
-Because Edmonton is so desperate for a goalie and so desperate to please McDavid, we squeeze the 2nd out of them in this deal as well. We slowly start to replenish our empty cupboards.
-The total cost for us is only 2 million dollars more than if we kept the original players.
Why Edmonton does it
-Like I said, they need a goalie change. Woll has a good reputation. He may also improve as he matures. A good gamble on the Oilers part. Possibly the only good goaltender they may be able to get in the summer. They're very desperate. McDavid ain't playing.
-Robertson provides them with offense. He has speed too. Put him beside McDavid and a responsible defensive player and you may have something there. McDavid feeds him a beautiful pass, he scores.
-We sign and trade Robertson at a very reasonable cost.
-Edmonton ends up saving up 3 million in total. Money they desperately need.
