Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

From what I read dealing Marchment to SEA was a favour to the player. Keeping him in a tax free state

But taxes aren't an issue btw

15. There are several teams who believe that, on the open market, John Tavares -- 13 months older than Brock Nelson -- could match the latter's three-year, $7.5 million AAV contract from Colorado. Again, Toronto could choose to stretch it out to make the money match over a longer term. We'll see.
The Maple Leafs wanted Mason Marchment, and were disappointed not to get him. Toronto wild-card: to replace Marner, could they move a defenceman to get a forward?

As days pass, I do find it harder to believe Toronto is going to be a better team, we shall see.

This salary cap bullshit gotta stop.

No tax states just way too many advantages in hard cap system

20. New Jersey is not expected to qualify Cody Glass, making him a free agent.

No guarantee he makes it to free agency but I would love to take a run at a guy like that.

Sam Bennett “ain’t f—ing leaving.”

His words. Not ours.

During a Florida Panthers Stanley Cup celebration party in Miami on Thursday night, Bennett, on stage with teammate Sam Reinhart, indicated to a frenzied crowd that he’s going to re-sign with the Panthers rather than hit free agency on July 1.

Via text on Friday morning, Bennett’s agent, Darren Ferris, told us no new contract with the Panthers was done.

“It was an incredible and emotional night for the Panthers and well-deserved,” Ferris said. “The celebrations have been amazing to see, and Sam’s just taking it all in with his teammates right now."

“At this time, no contract has been signed — when there’s something official, we’ll share it accordingly.”

Panthers general manager Bill Zito said on Tuesday night after the Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers to repeat as Cup champions that he thinks he can bring back all three of the club’s bold-face potential free agents — Bennett, Brad Marchand and Aaron Ekblad.

At the least, expect Bennett talks between Ferris and Zito to pick up.

Along with Mitch Marner (another Ferris client), Bennett would be at the top of the free-agent list.

Here's my idea of a pretty decent off-season.
I think Veleno did something really nasty in international play and got suspended. I think he's got Bennett lite potential.
Farabee is a buy low asset, and also allows them to move on from Rielly. Maybe Rielly accepts a move with some prodding by both Treliving and Nonis.
Connor Brown had a bounce back year too. Helps the PK.

I'm not sure if that's a positive. I have 0 recollection of how they looked together at 4 nations but I'm just looking at stats and they combined for 3 points.
Yup and 2 of the 3 were Nylander. Zibanejad has he same points as Marner in the playoffs and has played a couple more games.

Nuclear option:

To TBL: Nylander, McMann
To TOR: Cirelli, Bjorkstrand

To PHI: Cowan, Woll
To TOR: Tippett, Hathway

UFA:
Ekblad 8.5Mx7
Tavares 4.5Mx6
Vladar 1.5Mx2
Raddysh 2Mx4
Tanev 2Mx4
Mangiapane 3Mx3

RFA:
Knies 6.5MX3

Domi-Matthews-Tippett
Knies-Cirelli-Bjorkstrand
Mangiapane-Tavares-Raddysh
Tanev-Laughton-Hathaway

McCabe-Ekblad
Rielly-Tanev
OEL-Carlo

Stolarz
Vladar

Cap space: 1.82M

Need a solution for Robertson, Jarnkrok, Holmberg, Kampf, Benoit. You can run 2 extras if they're under 1.82M combined (Myers is 850k).

I am all for moving Nylander but I think if they did it would be out of the division if not the conference.

I’m not sure how many teams have a perfect fit for 2C that would actually make sense for Nylander. Tampa apparently want a RW and they are deep at C and have 10 days before Cirelli gets full trade protection. He is also signed to an amazing contract.

This is literally the only Nylander trade I see out there that makes sense for the Leafs, the team acquiring him and for Nylander.

As value I don't mind it. I just would be surprised.

Leafs don't need to necessarily trade Nylander for a center. They can trade him for quality assets and use those to trade for a center.

How many teams does Nylander realistically waive for? And how many top end C’s are realistically available?

Is Cirelli available or are you just speculating?

I think there are teams out there that could be appealing to Nylander. Any team who loses out on Marner would probably be interested in Nylander at a fraction of the price.

I don't know about centers but I think Nylander would consider some of these teams.

LA, Vegas, Carolina, Anaheim, Nashville, San Jose
