If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

4-5 years 6m or under for knies is ideal to build a competitive team around him Matthews and nylander over that time period.

With Friedman mentioning that Marchand is looking for 24 million and Kyper saying the Leafs are one of few willing to go 4 years, 4 X 6 makes a ton of sense.

Honestly not that bad of a contract. Frontload it and just LTIR the last year.

He's a big gamble. But he's one of the few of the bigger named free agents who could potentially have a chance at giving more on ice value than his aav. IF (key word) I'm he continues to rebound
for sure risky. Wouldn’t be shocking if his body broke down, but he’s a high impact FA. Leafs can’t afford to be trotting out so many offensively inept dmen. Ekblad will help a lot with that.

Not to much mention competent defensively and plays with an edge.

Getting ready for an uninspired offseason. I'll assume/predict we:

1) Re-sign Tavares, but for decently more than Duchene (let's say 4-5 years X $6.25M)
2) Sign 1-2 middle 6 wingers like Mangiapane (I'll predict him specifically because he's from Toronto and has played for Treliving before).
3) Strike out on other middle 6 Cs, and go back with Domi or maybe Laughton in that role.
4) Otherwise mostly depth moves.
5) No trades of significance.

Because he's over 35, I don't think we get out from the cap hit with LTIR.

Cup or bust on yhe last three years of Matthews contract. If term beyond that helps lower cap hits (Tavares, Marchand)- give it. If we have to pay more for term(Knies) don't.

No point half assing- Knies and Nylander arent doing much with no 1c carrying around the husks of Tavares/Marchand/Rielly/Tanev/McCabe

I'd argue that it's 2 years, 2026 and 2027 as your go for it years unless we get McDavid which pushes out the window further.

If we haven't won anything by end of the 2027 season, it would be time to have that conversation with Nylander and Matthews about trades that off-season and officially kick off a rebuild.

How many points does Knies put up next year if Matthews is injured half the year?

Guessing it's Knies' camp that doesn't think it's close.
I'm tired of this nonsense with RFAs. I love Knies, love his game but enough! Tell these RFAs we own you, and you'll play for the fair market value we offer you.

Enough.

You don’t get it, if you don’t overpay for 34, 16, 88, 91, 44 you can afford better players ghan McMann, Laughton, Lorentz, and Holmberg………
I understand it, It's you who doesn't get it... They can score in the regular season, but come playoff times they all go goalless. .. That cannot happen.. Then you talk about the core4...
