If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Leafs should be aggressively trying to acquire him. An actual puck moving offensive dmen who is big and a RD at that needs to be brought in.

The price would be Knies+

Little surprised we haven’t heard anything about Lorentz resigning. Another local boy. Should be an easy sign but haven’t heard a word.

Also are they changing the dna with guys like jarnkrok, kampf, holmberg etc

Not really a priority. He's been decent but I wouldn't lose my sleep over losing him

There are so many here that can only focus on one thing at a time. Team sports don't work like that.
I just think its crazy there are so many here to expect 4 out of 12 forwards to score every single goal -- and expect to have any sort of succuss. Just because they are the best and highest paid forwards.

You'd think with the free pass everyone not named Mattews/Marner/Rielly/Tavares/Nylander gets, people would be itching to sign here with the lack of expectations.

Nah he just had the worst season of his career eh isn't returning Knies.
6'4 RHD 25 year old with a 70 point season to his name. The Islanders would rightfully ask for Knies+ and if the Leafs don't pay that another team will pay a similar price. What else could the Leafs offer that gets the conversation started?
He also is just off a bridge deal and wants to get paid.
Guess who else wants to get paid!

That’s definitely not happening. This is why you don’t trade 1st rounders for terrible players like Laughton. You use them for franchise changing players like a Dobson who is exactly what they need
That Laughton trade still haunts me

Mofo played like a mid tier 4th line C.

Even if he played like a 3C, you don't trade a 1st for crap like that. Save 1st for big moves that can change the entire look of a team

Seattle has 7 top 9 wingers right now (Tolvanen, Marchment, Eberle, McCann, Burakovsky, Kakko, Schwartz). I wonder if they move one and who it would be. I've proposed Eberle a few times because I didn't think they'd be attached to a pending UFA but they just gave up assets for Marchment so I don't know what's going on there. He is also the only RS winger of the 7.

I wonder if they move someone out and who it will be? There is the Berube connection with pending UFA Schwartz but I would hate to spend real assets on him.

Yep our issue has been both our bottom 6 never scores and our stars stop scoring as well. Every year basically all of our forwards outside of like 1 or 2 stink.

This was the first year in a while we got production from our defenders as well.

Obviously trade deadline everyone gets overrated and you have to overpay. But how much more would the leafs have needed to add to the Laughton deal to maybe get a Peterka?

Penguins are the team who are selling.

How about Tommy Novak for a cheap 2/3c? Two years left on his contract. Could be a temporary solution.

Good offensive skills, and fast. Defence? I don't know. Average? His face-off percentage sucks though. He would need someone like Laughton on his line to take some draws.

Send Dubas a whole bunch of his favourite prospects. (e.g., Niemela, Tverberg, Kokkonen)

Tre needs to hit a grand slam, but the question is, how does he get 3 guys on base?

1). Tavares 4 years * $5.5 million
2). Robertson + Laughton for Karlsson
3). Marchand 3 years * $8 million
4). Carlo for Coyle
5). Mangiapane 4 years * $5 million
5) Grand Slam Nylander for Dobson

Knies. Matthews. Mangiapane
Marchand. Tavares. Domi
McMann Karlsson. Cowan
Jarnkrok. Coyle. Pacioretty
Kampf

Reilly Dobson
McCabe. Tanev
Benoit. OEL

If you’re playing fantasy why not trade for McDrai

Tavares might be the only thing that could happen but not at 20% more than Duschene signed for.

On the "Why would Marchand come here" question.

So many players or coaches would love to come to Toronto and be the driving force behind finally getting us that elusive championship.

They all have big egos and want to be the hero.

The huge advantage he has is he has cap space. There will be alot of desperate teams

Once he spends all his cap gold then he loses his advantage because he has no picks or prospects of any value. Thanks to his Laughton/Carlo trades

I like how you changed your tune from him not being good enough to help and now he's too good for Tampa to let go.

I think Tampa can get themselves in a spot where they can't match 2.34M.
I never changed anything, i said 2,34 M will not be good enough to get him with an offer sheet...

And 2,34 would not be that hard to match for Tampa... In real money with taxes exemption, 2,34 M in Toronto its what like +/- 1,8 M or 1,9 M contract in Florida?
