Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

from some people I know who know he trained with mackinnon and crosby and both made pitches to him to join them
you can DM I can give you more detail on the side I just dont want to dox myself

and edit: I think Mitch has worn out his welcome here he can go f*** himself if you think im bias or something

Marchment has gotten a bit overrated the last few weeks. Though surprised Tre missed out, he seems like his type of player.

But if the Leafs are looking to land a centre via trade + 1-2 other biggish pieces they likely don't have that much cap space left for an expensive 3rd line winger
Bubble’s is running it back minus 16……..

I keep circling back to Buffalo. My dream would be to trade for McLeod but if that’s not realistic, I wonder about Kulich.

To Toronto: Jiri Kulich
To Buffalo: Bobby McMann + Ben Danford

Something along those lines? Buffalo would still have Norris, McLeod and Krebs down the middle.

Depends how the team is built out. Would you prefer a player that you are familiar with?

Do you really think tampa will let gone a yoing player who can playnup and down the line up, who had been second most producing player of the team last playoff because of a 2,34M and a 3rd pick.

Do you really believe it?

McLeod or bust. He has the speed to play at Nylanders pace and has the 2 way ability to help cover up some of Nylanders weaknesses. He also helps the PK and improving at faceoffs every year. Most importantly he is only 25.

Trust me, he’d be my top target. I’d be willing to pay a decent amount for him as well… Cowan + McMann + 2nd. He’d fit perfectly on the second line with Willy.

would they deal him though? They just got him for a, at the time, great prospect and he played above their expecations.

I'd love to grab him but idk what we could even give them,

McMann could go the other way, I'd also throw in the florida 2nd but is that even good enough?

I like how you changed your tune from him not being good enough to help and now he's too good for Tampa to let go.

I think Tampa can get themselves in a spot where they can't match 2.34M.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 25/26 Toronto Maple Leafs!!!

Knies - Matthews - Domi
Holmberg - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Laughton - Jarnkrok
Quillan - Kampf - Reaves

Rielly - Carlo
McCabe - Tanev
Benoit - Ekman Larsson

Stolarz - Woll

Can’t wait to add Mangiapane from free agency to this group to play with JT and Willy!

Just kidding… Common Tre let’s see some MOVES!!!!!!
They are leaving Cap Space to facilitate retention for teams who are making trades to improve themselves.

They just brought in Norris in that Cozens trade and got Helenius and Ostlund who could also be looking to make the team very soon at C. He's a RFA and maybe doesn't want to sign there. Who knows though. 50 point guy this season for the 1st time so I don't think he'll cost too much but don't think they'd give him away for nothing. Marchment only got Dallas a 3rd and 4th round pick and he had 47 points in like 62 games and more goals than McLeod. Trade market is weird at times and can be hard to guess what a guy could go for.

Marchment is Bertuzzi-lite. Glad we didn’t go for it
Not for nothing, but felt like Bert was used wrong in Toronto, under Keefe. They had him playing a skill game and trying to make plays with Marner & Matthews. He didn't have the hands for that.

Under Chief I'd feel like he would be more successful. More simple hockey, instead of the puck possession Keefe ran.

Step one: Trade guys we know don't work in the bottom 6 for picks/prospects.

Haula costs $3.15m, had only 21 points, is coming off an injury riddled season, is 34 , doesn't really hit, doesnt PK much. He got a 4th and recent 6th round pick prospect. Move guys like Jarnkrok and Kampf in trades where you add a mid round pick or two (4-5th, lesser prospects),

Replacing both of them will (should) cost less than $4.5m.

Step 2: Take a buy low chance on a few guys rebounding from down years / getting there game back a bit or just who bring a different feel.

1) Tanner Jeannout
2) Joel Armia
3) Brandon Tanev
4) Nathan Bastian
5) Christian Dvorak
H.M. Anthony Mantha (AHL/NHL depth) who could be great or literally nothing.

Look at guys other teams are moving on from who are still young enough to turn it around and / or might just need a new team. They will cost next to nothing, and can always be good AHL depth.
Grigori Denisenko, Julien Gauthier. This list grows quickly when we see what RFA's aren't qualified.

People bemoan Flordia, but they added one of their better D on waivers, and picked up a few others for nothing. We can't make a big leap by signing a $3m dollar player to a $3m contract. You need to take a few swings on guys who have an upside that could be useful.

Although Seattle paid a rather affordable price for Marchment, there just hasn't been that track record for playoff success from either team or player.

I feel like we missed out on Marchment for that price, unless we're on his NTC. Thats the kinda depth we needed for a middle 6 on a 1 year deal. His 6 points in 18 games (.33 ppg) is still much better then what we got out of Laughton, Lorentz, Jarnkrok, McMann and Holmberg. Despite people saying he's over rated, he's only got 2 less career playoff goals than Marner lol.

People are suggesting Jeannott, who is way worse and will want multiple years.

Its not the end of the world, he's not fast and can take bad penalties, but it would have been a fairly cheap upgrade. We draft terribly in rounds 3 and 4 for the most part.
