Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

One player I was impressed with this past season was Conor Garland.
I know he's a smaller player but hes quite the pest and has some real skill, plays sort of similar to Marchand.
I remember we were linked to this player in the Dubas regime.
He would probably qualify as a rat.

Needed to buy low a couple years ago, they were even willing to retain, now we probably don't have the assets.

Players don't care what Agents do, that's why they hire them.
The team treated the player well, it's all the other stuff that went/goes on.
Players see jerseys, thrown on the ice or set on fire, players boo'd off the ice, etc and they think why bother with that when there are so many other markets to choose from.
They also see 2 million show up for the Raptors victory parade. Winning in Toronto would mean a lot to some.

I think the only 2 options on the list would be Granlund & Mangiapane.

A lot of the comments from reporters and year end press conferences was that the DNA had to change and that you can't have similar style players. Ehlers seems like the perimeter player that the Leafs have/had. I agree with you that Benn stays.

Seemingly it might be a trade route for other centre options. Chandler Stephenson, Dawson Mercer, JG Pageau, Alex Wennberg or Ross Colton.

Which Leafs player has this DNA?

If Boston enters a mini rebuild, which I am not sure they will, the Leafs should be offering their 3rd this year for Kastelic. He has become a RW for them with Beecher taking 4C duties so he might be available. Kastelic is a RS C with speed, wins 54% of his faceoffs, fights and hits a ton. He is also a bit of an analytics darling. He is signed to a good contract for 3 years so he is well worth a 3rd or even a 3rd+.

This is the 2nd time I've been hot on Kastelic. The first time I proposed swapping Timming for him in the summer of 2023 and I received 100% negative feedback on here. Hopefully people have come around.

Rumor or speculation based on their cap situation?

Can there even resign Benn?
Both. Pagnotta said the Marchment is a player the leafs will take a look at. And now with Duchene signed, and Jamie Benn close to re-signing....Marchment is out the door soon.

Robertson for Marchment 1 for 1 makes sense. Saves the Stars some salary and also gets back a young player with upside. And his brother happens to play on the team

Re-sign Tavares

Re-sign Lorentz

Re-sign Holmberg

Extend Knies

Trade for Zibandejab

Trade for Bertuzzi

Sign Mangiapane

Sign Tanev

Sign Brazeau

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Tavares-Zibandejad-Nylander
Bertuzzi-Laughton-Mangiapane
Lorentz-Tanev-Brazeau
Holmberg

I love Kastelic, I have no idea what he would cost us.

Currently my fav for 4C is Faksa but Kastelic is someone to consider if the trade ask is fair.

I'd be fine with Robertson or a 3rd

I figure we can get a 3rd for Robertson to off-set sending the pick out.

There was one of their reporters suggesting Benn should move on.
His history there is solid, but he has regressed to a 3rd. liner.

That's the contract I offer JT, JT has way more career earnings.

4.5M x 4

Or 3.5M x 6 (with deferrals)

If he doesn't want to sign it, I am perfectly happy parting way, this organization needs to shed the reputation of one that folds in negotiations.

its beed shed reputation of not fold but reputation of low ball his own player... If he hit the market, Tavares can easily reach 8M for at least 3-4 year

So good chance if he sign, it would be with discount if he stay

Ah, I see the same rhetoric is being recycled about players not wanting to sign here because one agent is feeding media quotes to talk badly about the organization and pressure.

Marchand is rumoured to be interested, Rantanen was interested, Knies has basically said he only wants to be here but yes, let's listen to that.

God I respect JT so much more after seeing this shit, guy willingly took less in FA to come to Toronto to play.

Also for the love of god, if McDavid signs here. It will be to play with Matthews. So, no we won't be trading "Captain Arrogance" if McDavid signs here.

Reports are already out there from insiders that Benn is returning to the stars. Contract is close

I think they might handshake it for now while they work out other things like Dumba just because it would be smart to cover their bases in case an offer sheet comes through for Bourque.
