If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Is there really any need for Dregs to put that out there. Don’t see crap like that from most southern markets. Losing Marner for nothing is bad enough but the bad way it’s ending from all sides is only going to put a larger red flag on free agents considering the Leafs.

Second anti Toronto tweet from Strickland. Would never guess it’s stemming from Ferris acting like a child throwing shade on the organization. I would never draft a Ferris client again

It's all about the money.

It isn't like the Leafs were going to cheap out on players is it?

13.5 wasn't enough for one player, but my guess is it is enough for 2 players.

All his coaches disagree with you too. Over the last 5 seasons, only 8 players have averaged more than 22 non-PP minutes per game, and Nurse is one of them. Only Parayko, Doughty, Toews, Werenski, and Faber played more.

The guy plays a lot in tough situations… for a team that is very successful.

Low IQ, horrible defender, doesn't know what to do with the puck at times, limited offense, two straight garbage playoffs

He is good at two things, though: stealing money from the Oilers and sending monthly thank you notes to Ken Holland.

Dreger was just on TSN Overdrive and said that Matthews, Marner and Nylander had an internal competition "statistically" this year right from training camp.

He then pointed to Treliving's comment about DNA change as wanting to remove that sort of stuff from their culture.

As much as I love Dreger as an objective source of wisdom that isn’t a mouthpiece for Ferris or any other agent that will throw him scraps, how exactly are Matthews and Marner supposed to compete statistically when a goal for one is an assist for the other 90% of the time?

The Leafs are suddenly lacking in star power. Who is the last team to win a cup where Nylander would have been their 2nd best player?

The Leafs have quickly turned a corner from being top heavy to having to rely on depth to win. They need 3 scoring lines now more than ever.

Yes this is definitely a Ferris issue. I wonder if they are upset that Mitch was asked to waive his no move clause several times. (Vegas and Carolina) that we know of

Bummed to see Donato reupped with Chicago for a very reasonable contract.

He was a good opportunity to improve our Centre depth for free as a UFA, and at $4m a season, that was a very palatable AAV.

He proved he could play with talent playing with Bédard. He may very well have had no interest in going to UFA and no chance to talk to him, let alone sign him but I would have been interested if he had hit the open market.

I think he’s going to prove last season wasn’t a fluke due to it being a contrary, provided that he continues to put in the work.

On the Edmonton boards, the consensus seems to be after a goalie their biggest need is to get out of the Nurse contract. Seeing: 'we need to find a sucker GM...' Weird to see some advocating for him here.

Next one is E.Kane. Seeing comments like: what does he even do out there.

If their own team feels this way Id take a pass

I would pass on E. Kane.

He was taking selfish penalties against Florida. Even took a misconduct at the end of the game and never came out to shake hands with the Panthers a few moments later.

No thanks.
Didn’t he also mention to the media how Florida gets away with a lot of calls? Someone needed to do that.

Given the fact he would essentially be free, I would definitely consider it.

Sadly with Marner leaving I think we will have far less UFA interest than we expect

There really is a stench in the room and culture. We’ve all known about O’Reilly getting out as fast as possible.

I don’t see the future looking bright for our leafs

I just think his game will age poorly from here on out.
You look around at players who can slot into your top six that won’t cost much to acquire and most have term on their contracts, Zibanejad, Bertuzzi, etc. Kane at least only has 1 year remaining, so if it doesn’t work out at least his salary comes off the books where the UFA pool will hopefully be a little better next off-season. It would also allow us to spend our very minimal assets on a second line center and fill another need.

Not saying Kane is ideal, but given our position, needs, lack of assets, cost to acquire, etc it might be something to explore.

Marner was a big part of the problem with our culture. We still have a good team without him. I don't think his departure will impact the decision of UFAs considering whether or not to play here.

Our demise is being greatly exaggerated.
We still have Matthews, Nylander, Knies, our entire defence coming back if we like, both our goalies and tons of capspace.
That should easily still be a playoff team.

He's a popular guy around the league.
Players will take notice of how things ended here, not only with him but with how the team was treated in general.

I'm sure that wasn't a very serious 'competition', just teammates pushing each other.

Nylander never had a chance.

Last summer when Marner wasn’t re-signing there were a few reporters saying that UFAs didn’t want to come here with that not solidified. Meaning the writing was on the wall.

Now with him leaving what does that say to players? He turned down contracts in his home town to get out.

You may not think it’s an issue but it’s doesn’t matter what you or I think. It matters what the agents and players think or perceive

NHL players have got to be the biggest p***yes on earth. They want the millions but cant handle the heat nor do they want the glory of the historic markets. polar opposite of soccer players and basketball players.

however at the same time I was told by the brainlets on this board that there is no pressure in Toronto etc. so why are these Weiner hockey players so concerned about how Mitch was treated (like royalty until the beer incident at the end)
