If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Wonder how much the Oilers would pay for Woll. They will desperately need goaltending help (whether or not their front office realizes that is another matter) and they are obsessed with acquiring former Leafs.

Probably could get a 1st. Not sure what their prospect pool likes
Should get a 1st as its deferred and will be late. Add Podkolzin as well - love him.

So long as the question is: "most likely Leaf to retire"

They are not talking about buying him out. A fan wrote that in a blog.
Okay, there are rumours about Bertuzzi being bought out.

His brutal -39 is probably because he plays with one-way Bedard.

He wasn't the answer to any of the questions while with the Leafs.

I finally took a try at PuckPedia.

Trades:
- Jarnkrok to Utah for a 3rd
- Reaves and Robertson to Nashville for a 4th
- Kampf to Chicago for a 6th
- Rielly to Vancouver for a 2nd
- 2nd and 5th to NYR for Zibanejad

Added Grzelcyk and Ekblad on defence. Skill, puck-moving ability, and nastiness.

Signed Saad, Tavares, Beauviller, and Brown to round out our lines.

If you need the number for Gillooly let us know ... to help with some of those trades ...

Interesting, listening to Dom Luszczyszyn on the latest Leafs Report singing Ekblad 's praises - could potentially be a guy who could elevate his on ice value beyond what his next aav is. And the Leafs do need another true top pairing guy. Getting him would also free up another D man to trade for another need via a trade too

Tre tried to extend him last time around and couldn't quite get the aav to align. I can see him circling back if that happens. Even if it's just for another 1 year deal. I'd be okay with it.

I'd avoid Ekblad, he's damaged goods. I doubt that he risked taking steroids to build muscle - it was injury treatment.

He's definitely got issues, but also just won his second cup.

I get the hesitation, but I'd be a bit more willing to gamble on someone like him than hoping some older guys in free agency won't decline after signing their deals

I would be all over Bertuzzi - can't imagine why they would buy him out though. Had pretty much his most productive season.

I’ve come around on him as well. There’s risk there, but checks a lot of boxes for us

Look at all the teams that need a goaltender. It’s CBJ, PHI, PIT, maybe BUF, maybe DET. Of those teams which ones which be looking for a rental on a cheap deal? They are all looking for a long-term solution.
He can be a solution for a couple years cbj has a good young goalie that should be ready inna couple years anyway Philly was his original team buffalo would pay id target them or Detroit to be honest both cores are starving for a goalie to get some playoff action

Woll is an interesting trade chip, but I think you really need to fill one of the C spots or use him to replace something you've moved for one of the C spots.

I don't think Edmonton has that. They did last year with McLeod, but not now.

Did you hear what Bennett said about Marchand?

It made me want to sign him right there

We need a guy like him

But I don’t know how we will ever beat Florida in a playoff series unless Bobrovsky declines

Florida is going to be there for 5 more years

Rather trade with buffalo or Detroit and id rather keep woll at the better number and trade stolie

Some hard truths people are going to have to come to terms with as moves unfold over the coming weeks.

1. The UFA pool is shallow particularly in our areas of need. The few good guys seem to have good fits elsewhere and everyone will get overpaid.
2. We have very few assets to offer for trades, especially compared to most of the rest of the league so when it comes to guys who are available we will be hard pressed to match what others can.
3. The guys we have who we don’t want, nobody else wants them, at least not for free.
4. We have maybe one at most prospects who can step in next year to help.

Management is going to have to be very creative with moves to fill the holes we have and likely target guys who not that wanted based on what we can afford.

Five years is just enough time to properly rebuild………
