Lorentz for me was a quality 4th liner this season.

He actually had 5 game winning goals.

If you look at the leaders in this stat, noone that finished with 5 or more had less playing time than Lorentz (10:33).

Lorentz put up decent production in the regular season, there is no question there. I might have hoped for better play in the playoffs though, and while he's physical, and has good size, there is a lack of snarl that goes with it. I'm kind of on the fence. If he comes back, I'm fine with that, at the right price. If we think we can find an upgrade in some way... I'm good there... like Perry and Jeannot, or Perry and Anderson, or Jeannot and Anderson as examples. Although Perry seems to be an expert at coming second... though that would be an upgrade over our history.

I would love Zacha for 2C. He's good both defensively and offensively - what we need for the second line. Also gritty enough to change the DNA, somewhat. Cheap too (4.7). What would it cost? As long as it's not Cowan, I'm good.

He’s starting to look like our best “realistic” option. Not sure what the cost would be though. Zibanejad would be the best for the cost but I don’t see how he changes our DNA.

It's something I've considered as well. He's just not been reliable enough to be counted on, and even then, never really made a huge difference.

The problem being, you really aren't going to contend without him either, and we gave away all of our draft picks, so a rebuild is going to be tough under such a scenario. You aren't getting a 1C back... so the hope is somehow you build really nice depth, and hope McDavid signs here... which is pretty pie in the sky stuff.

My favourite idea, was Byfield + Clarke + 1st. @JKG33 probably hates it... LOL

But you do get a C, a potential top D, and a first back... But our team is likely worse after, lacking much in draft capital, and just hoping we get the right UFA, at the right price.

Plus, let's face it... it would be pretty shocking to see Management actually pull such a move, but in all probability, in three years, we'll look back and agree we should have done it now. I'd love to be proven wrong on that... but....

This makes no sense. Why would a team with 30M+ of cap space be willing to move their 27 year old 4-time leading point scorer when they're reportedly desperate to make the playoffs? It especially doesn't make sense when you see he's signed for 5 more years on a good contract.

If this is true I would have to think something's going on behind the scenes.

Yea with a thin UFA pool and a rising cap, those cap dumps like Domi/Kampf/Jarnkrok could at least restock the team with mid round picks.

Thats what I like about my Seattle idea. You could probably get one of if not both of Beniers + Wright from a team desperate to improve.

Fwiw I think Byfield is pretty useless. I hated that pick at the time, and Stutzle has continued to make LA look stupid. But at the same time I recognize Byfield probably has some decent value still around the league. Which is why I'm against it. Thats a lotta value for a player that ain't it.

If you like Byfield, then him + the 1st for Matthews is probably closer to fair value. Slight addition from LA but Clarke being in there makes it ridiculously lopsided in favor of Toronto. I would very happily trade Byfield, but for a player that isn't Matthews.

So Leafs throw Mo into the deal to even things out?

It's fine get player to bring offensive but you still need player to defend well and right now, McCabe and Benoit (at lower level) are the only LHD of leafs good in that department, remove both for walman and you fall at 0. The 2 only D in your line up good to defend would be tanev and Carlo

So yeah McCabe are extremely important for the leafs because leafs have nobody to rwplace him and its not Walman who will do it..

I think you're mistaken by looking at his country of origin and weight; the reason he gets hurt so much is because he plays reckless which is pretty sandpapery to me. I'm not advocating for signing him but just thought I'd correct this

Think he's been on the block before too. Maybe he just wants out and wants to play meaningful hockey for once. Probably gonna be another 2 years before Anaheim is contending for the playoffs if their young guys live up to expectation and he'll almost be 30 by then. I doubt the Necas rumours are true but if they are then I'm sure Terry would love to go home and Necas could get his chance to play C in Anaheim and Colorado could also get a pick or 2 back. Necas might cost too much for Colorado on his next contract so having Terry locked up for 5 more years at 500k more than Necas current deal helps them out a lot too. Seems like a win-win for both sides

I think the projection is 9 mil for 7 years. I don't think Colorado or anyone has any issue giving him that it's just that the rumours are he wants to play C and now with Colorado signing Nelson they are using that as why he possibly wants out.

Fits the big body profile that Treliving, and although he is 40, he still brings offensive ability and, believe it or not, plays a ton on the PK. I would be interested in Burns at a lower price point. Not my first option as I'd like to get younger, but on a 1 year deal I have heard worse ideas.

RE: Zibanejad controversy. Yes, he has his flaws - he would not be available otherwise. He's garnering so much interest because he can likely be had for pennies on the dollar - big boom or bust potential - much like Dubois last year.

I still maintain that he would be a great addition.
