If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

How do you know he's a "me first" guy? From the word of bitter butthurt players he may have "confronted"? The fact is that unless any of us were members of those dressing rooms none of us really know.
This. Brad Richardson (who was in that dressing room) said on Missin' Curfew that Miller is intense, was upset with EP's lack of effort, but didnt go about his displeasure in the right way given EP's personality.

You do realize you can look this stuff up right?

How many times would you like to post incorrect information in this thread, before you completely throw out any credibility you had?
Hey that one I'll own an L on. I genuinely thought they had been forcing that combination.

I still maintain Zib is ass though

Matthews, Zib and Laughton have all received Selke votes in their careers... it really depends on who their linemates are.
Before Treliving traded for Laughton you and I were both in agreement that Laughton's 1 5th place Selke vote was a joke and he was not a good defensive C. Did his time in Toronto change your opinion?

We are also both in agreement that Zibanejad's defensive game fell off a cliff last season. He had 1 5th place Selke vote in 23-24 which truly means nothing. He finished 15th in voting 3 years ago, 16th 2 years ago.

Matthews can absolutely anchor a shutdown line but is that the best use of his talent?

Correct...

Richardson also said this.

»I said you're too hard on this kid. (EP) He's a kid that doesn't take it, when you're on him, on him, on him, he's going to shut it down. I told [Miller] you're going to lose this guy if you keep doing it

- Brad Richardson

Richardson also said in an interview that Miller is a squirrely guy, who needs to be controlled by a veteran presence.

He had conflict with the Tkachuks at Four Nations.

With the history J.T. Miller has at reportedly causing problems within a locker room, it could be a concern for USA fans that the chemistry and relationships within the team could be thrown off after these recent comments.

The stories of Miller have been around for years...

Yea exactly. Miller intense and wants to win. EP is a baby that wasnt giving effort.

Get me Miller on my team any day. EP spunds just like Marner during the Babcock days

LOL Jt Miller > Matthews.

I've seen enough.

Jt Miller averages 0.5 PPG in the playoffs and doesn't even come close to Matthews in the regular season.

JFC.
I think he's talking dirtbag quotient. :sarcasm:

I didnt include Tavares and Marner because as of this moment they are free agents and do not count against the cap. Without Shannahan there I think Brad will change things up. He has been here long enough to know the current core doesnt work.

Domi on top line long term makes me nervous. In short stretches he looks ok but he takes dumb penalties and will get exposed against other teams top lines long term imo.

I think it is a waste to extend Tavares and put him on the 3rd line. Laughton and Brown wont be able to put up enough offense to make it worth it for him. Maybe be better to put him with Matthews and have a gritty 3rd line. The problem looking at this is we are back to no offense in the bottom 6 which is and issue. They may be more gritty but at the end of the day replacing McMann with Marchand, Marner with Tavares, and Tavares with Karlsson probably isnt enough.

Knies-Matthews-Tavares
Marchard-Karlsson-Nylander
Domi-Laughton-Brown
Lorentz-Faksa-Tanev
no one's a free agent until July first...........

Ya... agree on Laughton, though I thought he was better than I had expected defensively... like I said, it depends on who you put people with.

It also depends on what you think of Zibenajed, and whether that was team, or has he regressed? He's been a good defensive player for quite some time, and I'd think he'll bounce back... but like I've repeatedly said, this is not a stats judgement, it's down to watching video, talking to Nylander, talking to Zbad if possible... and making a decision, with pro scouts, and the management team. I'm not saying it's the right move, but it's the type of buy low we should explore.

"IF" that was a one down year, and he rebounds, he could be a fantastic pickup... if he once again is a Selke vote caliber guy... top thirty in the league as a forward... that's good right? I mean, good defensively, PPG second line C would be nice right?

But, I'm not advocating that we absolutely must do this... but if our pro guys look at this, and decide it's the right way to go.... I'm certainly not against buying low.

Look... if he rebounds, he's better value than whatever overpayment Bennett will give you.

I imagine Bennett and Zib will be relatively close on AAV. I think Bennett would come in between 8.5M and 9M in Toronto. I'd take Bennett over Zib if I had to pick today.

Frankly, I'll take none of the above.

You don't want players like EP, that lack effort at times, and are mentally soft.

You also don't want players, that are SO intense, that they de-motivated their team mates. Knowing how to press the right buttons, and when is a skill, and an art. Miller is completely clueless there... he's like Torts... push, push, push.. might work for a bit, not going to last very long, likely to cause problems quickly.

An intense leader, who knows when to be hard, and knows when to use a softer approach.. that's the player you want... You don't want a sledge hammer, for a finishing screw.

From what has been reported recently on Bennett it seems Florida for 8-8.5m or just get the absolute bag from a team like Utah

Let's see where they both end up. Bennett's playoff warrior run, seems to have made him more legend, than perhaps he deserves.

Bennett likely is a 40-50 point guy next year, on an $8-9.5 mil contract.
Zbad is likely a 65-80 point guy, on an $8.5 mil contract.

Zbad has 63 points, in 70 playoff games. 70 point per 82 game pace.
Bennett has 78 points in 106 games. 60 point pace...

Zbad has outproduced in the playoffs as well.

I dont disagree with you for the most part. Ideally you want that perfect balance.

However I think its obvious one of the extremes is better than the other. And after watching 9 years of the fraud 4 fall into the former category, I'd happily take someone like Miller from the latter category.

Zibanejad since we're on the topic falls into the former as well.
