If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

I would love to see Rielly moved instead but I'm not holding my breath.
It would definitely help change the “DNA” with Marner and Rielly both gone.

Sounds like Gavrikov and/or Provorov (If NYR can clear enough cap) could sign with the Rangers. I would love to see Treliving trade for Miller and then trade Rielly somewhere. Left side of Miller - McCabe - Ekman Larsson.

I just don't see the Miller fit. What does Toronto have that NYR want and then do you want to pay him 7M?

Have you heard of any buzz around the idea of moving Morgan Rielly this summer? He isn’t moving like he used to, and it seems possible that both he and Vancouver would be open to him going home. — Mike C.

I have heard the talk in the fan base and media. But I don’t think he has any interest in leaving.

What I have also heard is that Toronto would like its blue line to be able to break the puck out better and help defenders maintain possession more, something that was an issue against Florida.
In an ideal world, that would mean bringing in another puckmover, not moving out the only one they have (or two if you include Oliver Ekman-Larsson), but it’s hard to see them being able to address the composition of their defence with all of their needs up front and the limited options in free agency.

For now, they need Rielly to be part of that solution. He knows he needs to be better.
So it's one of Benoit or McCabe. Or both.

Trade worked out then, because Miller wasn't exactly burning it up in Vancouver this year. Unless screwing your teammates is a good thing?
I wish Toronto could have someone come in and treat Matthews the way Miller treated EP.

I also wish Toronto could aquire a great, productive player like Miller for pennies on the dollar because another team's overpaid star is a pissbaby

Yeah I’m not sure if Toronto has what it takes to acquire him. Are the Rangers asking for too much or are teams iffy on giving up a lot for him? He’s been in the rumour mill as available for quite some time and given his age, size and play you’d think someone would step up and pay the price by now but why are the Rangers not willing to give him term?

Regardless I would take the chance. The deal I’m sure would need Cowan going the other way along with McMann, Benoit and a 2nd? Not sure if that’s enough.

I don't know how you would make the D work, but theoretically if Rielly would waive for NYR and a Rielly for Zibs deal works. You have enough cap to acquire Karlsson + Zibs and build out a forward group

Cowan probably gets you close but I wouldn't be giving him up for a guy who's a 50/50 chance to live up to his contract.

If Toews isn't washed.

4th line of Lorentz/Jeannot - Toews - Raddysh could be pretty good and relatively cheap to spend more money on the top 9.

K. Miller sucks. Hard pass on that.

The defence is fine as-is. If Ekblad wants to sign here you move heaven and earth to do it. If Gavrikov/Provorov want to sign here then sure move Rielly for whatever

I mean Cowan isn’t even guaranteed to make the NHL. I would hate to give up on him don’t get me wrong, but it’s a lot easier to fill a hole upfront on the wing than it is in your top 4 on the blueline.

I’m all in on Ekblad. Ekblad - Tanev - Carlo down the right side, sign me up!

SO... you'd like Toronto to go after a player like Zibanejad? For Pennies on the dollar. Miller was pretty bad, until he was traded to the Rangers, and Zibanejad carried him the rest of the year. (Or maybe they just worked out together)

Marchment, and maybe E Kane are also cap casualty players, who might move. Karlsson if Vegas signs Marner, but I think the Karlsson market will be costly.

I would 10x take a shot at Walman who also could be available for cheaper and use Cowan to get a C if he is being moved. LD is the most abundant position in hockey. No need to move Cowan for a non-elite guy.

I would definitely prefer to move Cowan for a top six center, just not sure one is really available worth him? I mentioned McLeod not too long ago and a few around here said Buffalo isn’t moving him. A move like that would be ideal though IMO. Would love having the second line with McLeod and Nylander.

I dont know how your brain works if you got from what I said that I want Zibanejad lmfao.

Miller was still the Canucks best forward, and had been for the duration of his stint in Vancouver. He was also signed to a bargain of a cap hit and is a very intense player.

Zibanejad is none of those things.

What? What a weird take.

At 25-years of age, Miller has been solid for the Rangers since arriving in 2020/21, posting 36 goals and 132 points in 368 games played with a +49 differential in that time, but now, patience has run out with the former first-round pick.
There are potentially plenty of suitors for a talented defenseman on the market this off-season, and with a lack of big names in free agency, expect Miller to draw significant interest this summer, even if the price the Rangers get likely won't blow their fans away.

If the Rangers are dumping a player, its usually because that player sucks. Look at all their moves over the past few years.

If he was anything worthwhile they'd keep and happily overpay him. They have no problem handing out bloated contracts to players they deem good.

If you think Zibanejad isn't a productive player, I'm not sure what to say... 33 points in his last 31 games, and they have about the same number of points over the last SEVEN seasons.

Zbad won't be traded for his full value, pennies on his dollar.

On the other hand, Miller has been a locker room issue everywhere he's played at some point.

Correct. He wasnt productive until Miller dragged his ass along. Captain dumbass was right when he said the Leafs have too many passengers, so they dont need to add another one.

0 interest in a player who shows up to camp overweight and cares more about his DJ career in Sweden

Sure, like they dumped Kaako, for pennies on the dollar... and he played well since being moved.

Such a model franchise... let's be frank, Chris Drury took a pretty good cast, and has completely screwed it up. They won't sniff the playoffs again this year.

I'll just go with... our judgement of players isn't the same.
