Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Jeannot - Laughton - B.Tanev is the type of 4th line Toronto fan crave. I really hope it happens.
Even though that would definitely be an entertaining line, I worry about the lack of offence. Tanev - Laughton - Raddysh is my ideal 4th line, provides a little bit of everything IMO.

The leafs need a young enough player who fits the "Toughness" criteria and can be a mainstay in the 4th line for years to come.

Tanner Jeannot fits that perfectly. Not only is he one of the toughest players in the league, he also has offensive upside and isn't just a regular goon.

It would eliminate the need to constantly churn through 4th line "gritty" players (reaves, lorentz, Dewar, blackwell, Acciari, Simmonds, clifford, etc..) like we have in the past.

would rather hold onto Lorentz than overpay for Jeannot. He fit like a glove, was super reliable, and shouldn't be to expensive .
Lorentz was fine for the most part but he needs to be upgraded on. He was physical sure, but the "toughness" aspect was missing from him as a 4th line player.

He was barely a factor in the playoffs outside of the breakaway chance he got in game 7. He refused to engage physically in the playoffs for the most part. He looked like he was coasting aginst the sens and panthers. Laughton was trying to make things happen while Lorentz just looked the other way.

Look at the panthers now and who they have in the 4th line. Gadjovich and Greer are physical menaces and stirring things up.

"The DNA change" comment applies to every line, not just top guys. Someone like Jeannot is more needed

Can't help but think if Marner forces his way to Vegas, the Leafs could maybe do a separate deal for Barbashev to help Vegas get Marner?

Barbashev won a cup under Berube for St.Louis. Big, strong, fast, and physical player to add to the top 6/9

Barbashev would be a nice addition for sure, don’t see Vegas moving him though.

A 4th line of Tanev-Laughton-Jeannott could be a solid all around line that can bring some nastiness while also being able to put up some points.

I'll take Zibanejad as our 2C

Knies - Matthews - Domi
XXX - Zibanejad - Nylander
McMann - Tavares - XXX

Solid top 9, need to find some pieces in free agency to fill it out

Marchment 2LW, Crouse 3RW - or visa versa.

Wonder what the package would be for Ziba.

I can't see it costing an arm and a leg, especially with Zibby having a full NMC.

With NYR wanting to move his caphit & change the "DNA", and can only do so with his permission it'll probably be like the Kreider trade, maybe a bit high of a draft pick.

Luke Kunin.
I've heard his name brought up a few times and apparently the Leafs have even been rumoured to be interested in the past.
Is this guy actually some underrated player or just another random bottom 6'er?
Capwages has him projected to make 1.7 x 2
He can play C/RW

Don’t see Leafs paying $3 mill for Jeannot and $2.5 mill for B. Tanev to play the 4th line. Doesn’t make sense cap wise.

I would agree with you, but I doubt either player gets that much... could be wrong... but Jeannot's offense really fell off, and both he and Tanev should be below $2 mil. Even then, to have multiple guys earning that on the bottom line isn't ideal either.

I think it's one, or the other.

I have no problem giving Jeannot and Tanev 1.8-2 million each

Jeannot Laughton Tanev would be a very very difficult line to play against

Yeah, someone mentioned Danford and McMann. I think that makes sense. Zibby has a big cap hit (8.5), but he's been at, near, or exceeded a point-per-game for 7 years straight. Even in the Rangers crap season, last year, he had 62 points. Three years ago, he had 91 points and 39 goals. But, like you said, the full NMC and the desperation of the Rangers to change things up will lower his price, I hope. I think Danford and McMann is fair.

Giving up Danford for Zibanejad would be heartbreaking. I would think his value is close to Kreider's.
