If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Anyone know what's up with Boone Jenner. I don't follow Columbus but I think he's been injured or something? If he's healthy now he's entering his walk year with a 3.75 million cap hit. NGL I'd rather have him than Laughton. What an awful acquisition.

Who? Man. Talk about an underwhelming return for the Rangers. We could have sent Steeves for him.

Then again, it's never that simple. Maybe Kreider only had 2 or 3 places he wanted to go.

I had a feeling the Rangers were going to do a deep re-tool. That locker room was supposedly a mess.

I'm now focused on Lafreniere.
Yeah maybe Kreider had no interest in coming to Toronto which is very likely unfortunately. I’d be very interested in Lafreniere, doubt we’d be able to get him though without giving up Cowan.

I can see them going hard at Marchand

If the leafs have Marchand and not Florida this year we are in the cup final right now

I have to think Florida will be fatigued next season after 3 straight cup finals.

There is a window there where the east looks open to go to the finals.

Yeah, for sure. I'd have to think very hard about Cowan for Lafreniere. I feel like Lafreniere is close to being a complete player. He was trending in the right direction 2 years ago. I still think he will be a consistent 30 goal, 60–70-point guy who skates well, plays with physicality and is defensively responsible. I probably wouldn't lose any sleep if we gave up Cowan for him.

If Bertuzzi is getting bought out he would be a decent addition to welcome back

Knies Matthews Marchand
Marchment Tavares Nylander
Bertuzzi Toews Domi
Lorentz Laughton Tanev
Holmberg

Close to zero interest in Lafreniere really. Not that he's not a good player with intriguing potential but I think this team needs to focus on different players that won't cost a ton to acquire, kinda like Kreider was.

Yeah I guess I’m just wondering if Cowan is moved, whether it would be better to use our best trade asset to address a need in the lineup such as a second line center (McLeod) or a young defenceman with top four potential (Nemac). But who’s to say Buffalo or New Jersey are even looking to move either of those guys.

With Columbus apparently ready to make a hard pitch to Marner on July 1st, I wonder if it would be a perfect opportunity to try and pry Sillinger away from them. I’m sure having a few familiar faces on the Columbus roster might help their case. Something like Woll + McMann for Sillinger. And then I would be more open to moving Cowan for someone like Lafreniere or another winger.

No chance Bertuzzi is getting bought out. He didn’t have THAT bad of a year and not like Chicago is cap strapped.

I get, and agree with what you are saying in some ways, but that's kind of exactly the bold moves the Florida have made. They've made bets on players not meeting their expectations elsewhere, who then went on to meet them in Florida.

I suspect the right NYR player to go after, would have been Kakko. With a $2.4 mil contract, then a RFA, he put up 30 points in 49 games for Seattle. The acquisition cost was less, the contract less, and the production about the same. I suspect his second contract will be significantly less than Laf's too. I had talked about Kakko being the right target, before he was traded.

That's the key, finding people who might be able to outperform their contracts, who for whatever reason, are underperforming in their current situation. I think Krebs is a guy like that.

Benoit isn't perfect, but he's outperformed his contract, so has McMann. We need more guys, who can provide value for their $.

Sillinger would be that guy for me, I think there’s more to his game and I don’t think he will reach his full potential in Columbus sliding down the depth chart. 2.25 million dollar cap hit before becoming an RFA, similar situation to Kakko but Sillinger plays a position of need for us. Not to mention the most recent report of Columbus preparing to take a huge swing at Marner in free agency, why not add a couple of his buddies to the roster. Woll + McMann for Sillinger is pretty fair and fills needs for both sides. Would suck to break our goaltending tandem but goalies are always voodoo and who’s to say Vladar can’t put up a low 90% save percentage behind this defence or maybe Dubass is willing to retain on Jarry and we take a chance on him? There’s more options when it comes to goaltenders than young centers IMO.

Kakko was the perfect target for that for sure. I really wish they were aggressive there. If Lafreniere only costs a pick and whatever, then sure 100% go for it but I suspect the price to acquire will be a lot tougher to fit.

This team is way too focused on buying/signing high, or SUPER high in the case on a few players based on the rumours out there.

Krebs vs. Sillinger

Sillinger is younger, and bigger, better draft stock, has been more productive.

Krebs is faster, better defensively, more physical, lower cap hit. Krebs would be cheaper to obtain.

Sillinger 1.77 Points/60
Krebs 1.49 Points/60

Not a fan of moving Woll, but either would be nice pickups.

It wouldn't shock me, if both were about equal, with the same teammates... love to have both somehow.

Ofc this franchise is spoiled right now, we watched Tyler Bozak as our number 1C and begged and begged for a real center, now after 9 years, they want to change that. Watched the team from 2006-2016 be a laughing stock. Now people are talking about blowing it up.. You don't trade 1Cs or 1Ds.. you trade skilled wingers first.

He's struggled last 3 playoff rounds, and is 10 points under PPG in the playoffs...Toronto should probably do some form of load management towards the end of the season for him. He's had nagging injuries but nothing serious that's cause him to missed months upon months.
Nah, I yearn for the Bozak years. It was easy to cheer for players like Bozak. They were likable. While they lacked in skill they at least worked hard.

People made fun of the Leafs and I defended those teams. But now? People make fun of the Leafs and I agree with them. The haters are exactly right about the fraud 4

Brand name focused.... we should be finding value, and potentially breakout players, who need a change in scenery.

He's one of those players that can drive you crazy (like young Nylander) who floats now and then, but, he is a different animal in the playoffs (and when he 'wants' to be)
he may be a beast in the future when his game (and himself) matures more.

right, who wants a sure fire 30 goal guy who scores right at PPG and is 53-55% in the dot

It comes down to providing value for the contact. He's the best C on the market this year. But, he's aging, a bit slower, and our hope is to push him down the lineup. If you can sign him to a 6 x $3.5 million, there is absolutely no way of signing someone to a better value contract. If he wants $8 million, well it's not going to provide much in the way of extra value at all.

Hopefully we find a way to keep the AAV low, to pick up a 2C, and better the team down the middle.

People want change for the wrong reasons with just no logical reasons. I dunno why JT is an issue at any sort of discount. He works hard, he loves being here and while he's shown regression, still producing at a high level and people still don't want him at any price... it's crazy.

There's a lot to do and with Marner likely walking alone is a lot of change to the lineup, for better or worse.
