If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

They apparently were down to get Marner tho lol
Yea thats a team taking wild swings and whatever is within reach. Not like EP is a winner either.
Does trading for Karlsson @ 50% retained to get another puck mover then moving Carlo in another deal make sense?

Maybe something like Cowan + Carlo for JJ Peterka?

I know a lot of teams are looking for a top-4 RHD and Cowan’s value should be pretty high right now. That package show be able to net the Leafs a high end forward to replace Marner.
I wouldnt claim Karlsson on waivers even at 50%. Dude is to defende what Georgiev is to goaltending.
Ideally he moves, my dream blueline would be

McCabe - Byram
Provorov - Tanev
Ekman Larsson - Carlo

Unfortunately he has a NMC and decides his own fate.
I love Byram, but I think hes a LD exclusively.
I was thinking Carlo to Buffalo in a Byram kind of permutation but Peterka would be really interesting to extend the life of the team. Not sure Cowan is moved out though.
Yea I dont know how much Carlo moves the needle for them on a Peterka or Byram trade. Tbh I dont see much of value on this Leafs team besides Knies and Nylander.
I wonder if something like Woll + Cowan for Byram would work. Woll isn’t the RHD they could use but he would address another need for them in net along with getting a top prospect.
Why would they want Woll when they have UPL and Levi? If theyre not getting a legit starter might as well keep the guys they have

I’d like to see both Carlo and Rielly gone for assets

There’s no reason why Carlo can’t bring in just as much of an asset as he was traded for. Timing is key

I was ok with Carlo's play. He has a good cap and still can be very valuable
Rielly on the other hand is just a disaster in every facet

His biggest strength was his offensive game and his ability to move the puck up, which was gone south

If Panthers had capitalized on his mistakes alone in game 7, especially in the first period, he would have been -6

I don’t think Robertson gets any of those done.

I’d add if needed.

Kreider is likely a cap dump that could be had for free.

Robertson doesn’t get a player that could be had for free?

Marchment will go for a 2nd. Tons of teams would gladly pay that for him.

That’s probably fair value, but Dallas may value him at that level with the brother connection.

Utah loves Crouse and probably keeps him. They’re nowhere near the cap.

I keep hearing how much Utah loves Crouse and McBain, but their ice time last year tells the opposite.

Crouse’s ice time among forwards has gone from 4th to 3rd to 6th to 8th.

I think we’re better off using Robertson to acquire a more highly paid player who had a down year last year and we hope would rebound.

Chris Kreider
Lawson Crouse
Mason Marchment

Kreider would definitely be a pretty big boost and one of my top targets. He had a rough last season but I would not be surprised if he goes back to a 30 goal campaign, at least. He'd be a great compliment to Knies, Matthews and Nylander. He's older but with low term and probably a chip on his shoulder. The question is does he want to play here or stay in US? A lot of top end US players have all Canadian teams on their NTC.

Carlo is on a pretty great cap hit and fits into our contention window perfectly in his prime. The Leafs targetted him for a while and got him with one of their better prospects. I don't think they would shift off in this fashion 3 months later.

Karlsson would make perfect sense if you want a premier offensive defenseman with plenty of assets and cap space, but his cap hit is tough to fit and Pittsburgh will want a lot, especially at 50%. Just not the kind of target and roster manipulation I think we should be expecting.

From what I understand, Kreider suffered through several injuries last year. He may want to take advantage of Toronto’s top-tier medical staff before trying for 1 more decent contract.

I think with his speed and size he'd be very useful on the Tavares Nylander line.
Those two can shoot but there very good playmakers and Kreider around the net is a big target with good hands

I don't see why he wouldn't want to come to the Leafs.
First class training and medical staff, large market, big safe city, NY is a high tax state so used to it, make the playoffs every year, tons of exposure in a UFA year, quality linemates, organization that spares no expense, struggle to get guys to waive NMC there so happy

I think there's a difference between Canada and a whole and Toronto, we don't seem to struggle to get Americans or foreign born players to come here or stay

For the costs Kreider is definitely the play, but I see him staying in the USA, especially after being in New York city.

Rielly is not waiving.
Continuing to wish it won't make it happen.

Carlo is big, cheap, and all defense, should be able to make for a good second pairing.
Desperately need a Clarke/Byram to ride with Tanev and PP1.

I see Carlo as an ideal 3rd pairing d man who was partly exposed by the Panthers for his lack of footspeed. The leafs according to Tre are looking to improve their transition game from the back end. I expect the leafs to make further adjustments with the D.

More like Berube was forced to play him under his massive contract. Nobody can seriously compare Tanev with Rielly in terms of defensive acumen.

Of course not, just like no one would compare Tanev to Rielly in their offensive abilities.

Berube had a choice of 6 D, he played McCabe the most in all situations, Rielly 2nd, and he played Rielly the most in EVTOI, seems like he liked him, not sure why his contract matters.

Reilly really should be no where near this team. He should be part of the DNA change
Kyper thinks Leafs will try to get him to agree to waive this summer. We need a puck moving dman who can QB the PP. He is not it.

If they no longer want him here, he should/will waive. Who wants to play for a team that does not want you?

Jarnkrok and Kampf can join Dubas in Pittsburgh.

I feel like Rielly would be reasonable. His character is nothing like Matthews, Marner, Nylander. I feel like if Brad said to him we need to change things up. Marner and Tavares are not back, and we would like to trade you as well to get a fresh look. Let me know some teams where you would consider going to and I will see if I can find something with those teams to put you in a comfortable spot.

We can only guess whether a player will waive or not but there is not downside to asking the question. Rielly himself may want a change and had enough with the Toronto gong show.

If we slotted OEL with Carlo instead of Rielly I dont think it would make a difference in a negative way. I think OEL played really well last season. There may be some other ufa defenseman we can try to make a pitch to as well like Provorov or Ekblad.

I still think if Rielly moves, it’ll be to either Vancouver or Detroit. I don’t see Vancouver having much interest with Hughes and Pettersson on the left side already. I can see Detroit having some interest.

I think that, at this point in time, Kreider is my number 1 for targets (as well as a 2C or 3C).

He had 39 goals just 2 years ago. 52 goals in 21-22. That's nuts! I almost forgot about that season. He had a bunch of injuries last year, so I'm sure he'll bounce back.

He has everything we're looking for. Scoring, physicality, and "intangibles". Not only that, but he's also really fast.

This is a rare opportunity to get such a great player for a low-ish cost. I really hope that Tre is all in here.

Something tells me Rielly would wave if it was for a Western Canadian team.. Vancouver or Calgary. Other then that, I don't see Rielly waving and moving his family to the states.

Rielly for Andersson swap? Calgary gets a player locked up with term and a good leader while getting value for Andersson incase he leaves in UFA next season.. Toronto gets a puck moving d-man & can sign him/get cap space.

Rielly for Debrusk or Garland? Vancouver gets a d-man they can replace Hughes when eventually leaves to join his brothers in NJ, Toronto gets a middle 6 forward in Debrusk signed long term on a reasonable cap, same with Garland minus the long term.

Unlike the fellas, I think Rielly is a really good guy. He seem humble, caring, and thoughtful, I just think it is time for a change. I think if he would be receptive Brad could find a team that would work for him. I agree a West coast team would probably be where he would be interested in.

I think the Calgary connection with Brad makes some sense although I thought Calgary was a little hostile towards Brad so maybe not? Vancouver seems open for business. Maybe Meyers + Debrusk for Rielly + Robertson?

In what sort of sick, twisted, fantasy-ass world do you live in where you think you're going to get LA's BEST young blueline piece for Mitch Marner's age 37 season?

That's not how sign and trades for pending UFAs work lol.
Hey Brainiac, I said he should be the 'target' not that it would be a straight trade, use some common sense if you have any.

Fabbro could easily be that adjustment
