Moore would probably be fine, a 4th in this year or next's draft to equal it out?
This would all be dependent on LA getting one of the higher end UFA wingers but yea thats a pretty reasonable trade. I think Toronto could probably get a little more even but im still higher on Rielly than most here.
Is the assumption that Buffalo’s management is incompetent enough to acquire a LD in a Byram trade?
I mean the answer to the bolded is pretty much always a yes.

In all seriousness, I think both Dahlin and Samuelsson are capable of playing RD.

The issue with them and Byram is he wants a payday and the opportunity to run a PP

I think if JT and Marner went, it is easier to bring back Rielly as you've removed 2/5 core guys.

I think if someone else is up top near Rielly like Marner is, that person needs a good shot.

Marner is very obviously addition by subtraction. Tavares idk.. I think at this point he's likely to outproduce what his next cap hit will be in Toronto, but I could be wrong.

The reality is none of this matters so long as big useless is the highest paid player and wearing the C, this team won't be winning anything

I wish he provided clarity as to what the hell was bothering him but what's sillier is he played in the 4 Nations, he could have just taken off half the season, I would have preferred that over him being 70% or whatever down the stretch and playoffs.

They can't rebuild because our 2026 and 2027 1sts are gone and either we sign McDavid next summer or we're likely talking about a 2027 off-season franchise reset.

Strategically, I think Matthews lost something like 10 mph off his shot and Marner wasn't shooting it much...it's a pretty easy line to defend against.

Wild and funny idea..

Some post on the mains (prob b.s) but saying necas may wanna see the open market...
Ballsy move would be trade for his rights... Sign him 11-12 mil 8 years .... Pretty much tells Marner be can test open market... Re-sign knies, whatever left over split between Tavares and whatever else..

But the Marner , Rantanen, Necas carousel thing would be pretty funny.

They're going to have to clear out a bunch of the support players if they want to change things up beyond Marner.

They can't run back the same bottom nine lines. Guys like Kampf and Robertson were already in the press box during the playoffs, so it's going to have to go beyond that

Laughton is clearly staying. But McCann, Jarnkrok, Domi, Lorentz ect all have to be potentially out the door. Obviously not all, but room is going to have to be made

I'd be looking to get rid of Robertson, Kampf, Jarnkrok and Reaves. Laughton isn't a 3C option to me either

I'd keep Domi because we need a pass first playmaker for Matthew's and Knies

I'd keep JT to, I don't think we can get a better 2C for the money he's going to cost, I'm looking for a big bodied LW for that line though (trade for Marchment or Kreider preferably)

McMann 3rd line LW then I'm looking for a 3C I can build the bottom 6 around and play with Cowan if he shows well in camp

4th line Lorentz, Laughton whoever

Hard pass on Necas. More of the same, another soft skill forward who plays smaller than he is.

Theres a reason Carolina, another playoff failure of a team, had been trying to get rid of him. Remember, he'd have been a Canuck 2 years ago if EP would've signed in Carolina.

They apparently were down to get Marner tho lol

Or perhaps his camp already knows that Florida will offer him around a 5-6 million AAV at best so they're looking for 7.5 million elsewhere.
Yeah, the rumoured number is just reported as *the* number, not the *FLA* number.
That’s the number that sounds about right. 9 sounds too high.

If there is any chance for us to acquire Byram, regardless if Rielly is moved or not, we should be ALL over that. He’s exactly what we need on the backend.

McCabe - Byram
Ekman Larsson - Tanev
Rielly - Carlo

Byram QB on PP1, Ekman Larsson and Rielly on PP2.

Yeah I think Byram would fix some transition game issues for us for sure.

Reilly really should be no where near this team. He should be part of the DNA change

Now that Kupari is off the board I'm trying to find the next best 1-for-1 Robertson trade fit.

I am assuming Robertson is just traded for a 4th or 5th round pick. In the event of a change of scenery trade I like:

Kartye - Good defensive 4LW that hits a ton. RFA this summer - probably gets 1M.
Winterton - Unproven 21YO RS C. Played on Cowan's line with the Knights - possibly helps Cowan assimilate into the pro game.
Cole Smith - Fast, physical, strong defense 4LW/RW. 29YO and UFA next summer.

Some salary movement ideas:

Seeing Rielly at #2 on Kypreos' trade board gives me hope that he is actually moved. Moore for Rielly, as discussed earlier on this board would be best case scenario. Kreider for Rielly also makes sense assuming NYR move off KAM.

Nashville is in a weird spot where they need offense to compete but they really should be entering a rebuild. Does Trotz try to get back to competing? He has shown he loves big names (last off-season). Domi for Sissons could make sense for both. Domi adds offense to Nashville's aging top 6. They can absorb the money, especially after they move off Marchessault. Sissons can be Toronto's 4C and allow them to move Laughton to 3LW. Sissons has really strong ES defensive numbers, brutal on the PK. He is RS C which the Leafs desperately lack and he's 55% on faceoffs. He brings speed to the Leafs 4th line (94th percentile speed). He would be a big upgrade on Kampf.

I don't know what Seattle is doing but they're sitting on a few medium size contracts. Eberle is an interesting player for the Leafs. He suffered from a pelvis injury last season and saw a slight drop off in his foot speed. He does have a history of playing with Tavares (2009 WJC, 2017-18 NYI). Laughton-Tavares-Eberle would be a good sheltered offensive 3rd line. Does Jarnkrok for Eberle make sense for both teams? It depends who Seattle thinks they can get the most for at the deadline - they did get a 2nd for Jarnkrok at the deadline when they traded him last time (what kind of GM gives up a 2nd for Jarnkrok?). The Leafs probably need to add a 4th or 5th here.

Does trading for Karlsson @ 50% retained to get another puck mover then moving Carlo in another deal make sense?

Maybe something like Cowan + Carlo for JJ Peterka?

I know a lot of teams are looking for a top-4 RHD and Cowan’s value should be pretty high right now. That package show be able to net the Leafs a high end forward to replace Marner.

I was thinking Carlo to Buffalo in a Byram kind of permutation but Peterka would be really interesting to extend the life of the team. Not sure Cowan is moved out though.

I wonder if something like Woll + Cowan for Byram would work. Woll isn’t the RHD they could use but he would address another need for them in net along with getting a top prospect.

I think we’re better off using Robertson to acquire a more highly paid player who had a down year last year and we hope would rebound.

Chris Kreider
Lawson Crouse
Mason Marchment

Put the brakes on a bit bud. This is Byram, not Pronger.

Byram at one point was considering retirement due to his concussion history. He's not the point man you think he is
At one point he had tremendous upside, that's still needs to be seen

He finally played full season for the first time.

I don’t think Robertson gets any of those done.

Kreider is likely a cap dump that could be had for free.

Marchment will go for a 2nd. Tons of teams would gladly pay that for him.

Utah loves Crouse and probably keeps him. They’re nowhere near the cap.

I’d like to see both Carlo and Rielly gone for assets

There’s no reason why Carlo can’t bring in just as much of an asset as he was traded for. Timing is key
