There are no "contracts" or clauses for the NCAA. They commit to a school but can leave for pro whenever. He committed to UMass back in February, so maybe in the last 3 months and his memorial cup run turned some heads enough for him to change his mind and go pro.

I guess a lot depends on what the Leafs want to do.... do they see Hildeby in the future... do they want Matt Murray back as #3... in which case you don't need AA and Hildeby...... send Elliott to ECHL to begin a pro career... which might not be a bad idea, even if you keep all of the above.

There's more to coaching then just decision making.. IE Babcock. If players don't wanna play for you, you'll never get the best out them... This might be the case with Debor

He seems to be in the Cassidy/Torts genre of coaching, they can get the best out of you for 2 or 3 years, and after that the players don't like playing for you. It is what it is. Every coach is hired to be fired.

The EVTOI difference was 3+ minutes per game, not sure that was the case.

I know Pagnotta is all over the place but if this were true I could see a similar sign and trade than has been discussed with VGK/Karlsson.

LAK would need to clear space to bring in Marner and they aren’t a tax advantaged state so he theoretically would be looking for 12.5-13.5M still. Moore for Marner signed 8x12.5 could solve one of the Leafs winger holes.

Marner and Ferris aren't doing a sign and trade and if it does happen, it's not happening for a very good player locked up in Moore. It would be at most for a pick, and then they can turn around and trade away someone if needed or do whatever they gotta do. I am not sure why this narrative that a sign and trade for a player is at all possible, there are no precedence to this either. Pure dream that fits the narrative and bias.

Kings have 25M of cap space this off-season though and 50M next off-season. They can give Marner a ton of money and still have plenty to fill up without removing any of their top players.

Addressing the ability of our bottom 6 to actually have impact and play a tough playoff style game, we definitely need to get rid of nothing players like Jarnkork/holmberg/kampf

Replace these players with a combination of the following:

- Tanner Jeannot - big physical winger. Will fight anyone. Capable of scoring 20 goals. Even though his numbers are down, he has the skill to at least put up 10+ goals. 2-3mil per season.

- Mason Marchment - big, physical winger. Good hands and excellent in front of the net. Can put up 50+ points and a secondary net front presence. Possible Nicky bobby trade?

- Charlie Coyle - big center, physical and excellent PK. Can be counted on for 30+ points and play up and down the lineup.

- Trent Frederic - Big, physical C. Fights anyone, can put up 15 goals.

- Sean Kuraly - veteran physical forward, who has been a good contributor in playoffs.

Keep Laughton and McMann. They can both provide a ton of value for their cap hits.

Somehow I think they'd easily be able to naviguate that without having to give up Moore in this scenario, when they can just pick up Marner for free at 7 years instead of 8, and pick up decent value back for whoever they decide to trade to make things fit. Sign and trades are already very rare, it's typically just a team trading for the rights (like Tanev for the Leafs) and signing the player soon after themselves.

He easily gets a 2nd round pick back. Very easily. A workhorse 40+ point producer 1 season removed from a 30 goal campaign, signed to a pretty fair deal for 3 seasons doesn't get traded for anything less. Mangiapane was traded for a 2nd last off-season.

Moore has kinda fallen out of favour in LA. Not the guy he once was. A 2nd with a minor plus is probably all itd take if LA does get Marner.

LA has to keep some space open for Gavrikov (or another D) and the following year Kempe, who is a better player than Marner

That's the youth movement in the NHL these days, if you aren't relatable to the players in the modern NHL, you're not going to last. The Torts etc of world are slowly becoming extinct in the NHL.
