If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Tre said 48 hours ago that he wants to add a puck mover on D. It's unlikely that addition will be a 7D.
So who's the odd man out? If Rielly is indeed not moving...then literally everyone is almost mainstay.

McCabe isn't moving obviously. Just signed
Carlo isn't moving obviously. Just acquried
Tanev isn't moving. Just signed and team loves him
Rielly see above
OEL just had a solid season and can actually move the puck, so would be reduntant to move

That leaves Benoit? Who was a physical menace and put up more points than most forwards for us? We all know Berube loves a physical presense as his 6th man too.

So, unless Im missing something, Im confused. Reilly should be the one moving

My number one target would be William Karlsson for 2c. If we can somehow sign Bennett afterwards great, if not we can always sign Tavares at 5.5 to play 3c. Then you look to add a winger like Marchment or Crouse.

You’re following the same logic as me to realize the answer is Benoit.

I mean sure but I also explained why Benoit isn't gonna move. We all know Tre and Berube loves big physical players in the backend. You take out Benoit, our D-Core is fairly soft.

Unless ofcourse we replace benoit with someone who is ALSO physical and can move the puck. I dont know how many players are out there like that or who fits the bill.

Soft in which way? All of OEL, McCabe, Tanev and Carlo are battlers and they're just better players than Benoit.

He needs a gym membership this summer first and foremost.
This.

If Rielly isn’t going to be asked to waive, he needs to be given an ultimatum for offseason weight loss and conditioning.

He is out of shape and needs to drop 10-15 pounds before camp.

If he doesn’t, then he needs to be providing a 10 team trade list.

I still think Rielly can contribute but enough is enough. His conditioning is poor and needs to addressed aggressively.

As for the Bennet talk, I call bullshit by Ferris. He’s only name dropping the Leafs to try to get Florida to offer more. Bennett has no interest in leaving Florida.

I still want us to get Donato for 2C. I think he will prove last season wasn’t a fluke and he proved he could play with a talent like Bédard. He would be a good C for Nylander and allow Tavares to slide into 3C.

I agree Rielly should move but the reporting is out there that he won't even be asked which is unfortunate.

If Tre was willing to move off McCabe I doubt he'd give him a 5 year deal only 7 months ago. He is also their best LD and provides good value at 4.5M.

OEL is an interesting one. I wouldn't mind if they moved off him but he actually provided good value for 3.5M. I think it's more likely that they move off Benoit simply because he's the worse player and Tre stated he wants more puck movers, not less.

In a perfect world they move off Rielly and run McCabe/OEL-Benoit 1-3LD but we already know that's not going to happen.
got to lean on him like the Rangers did with Trouba............

I feel like Nick Robertson for Marchment makes way too much sense for both teams no? Dallas seems like an ideal spot for Nick Robertson to be reunited with his brother and Dallas loves these types of players. They shed Marchment's salary

Marchment is the type of forwaerd we need to add to our top 6/9....potential Pacioretty replacement too.
I'm good with that swap..........

I would hope if Pelley wanted Tre to change the way he's been a GM his whole career he would have just fired him and brought in someone that actually is ruthless.

There's that saying about painting stripes on a cat.
it's a interesting question since Pelley won't make hockey decisions how will he pick the next GM?

I don't see this blueline being a long term strength. It's like the Pat Burns teams that did it by committee and is going to have a best before date soon. Going to need to quietly invest and overhaul it before you find out in-season.
yup, Mo has already dropped off a cliff the same could happen to OEL, Tanev, and McCabe although not likely. Injuries are a concern too when you ice a vet D..........

Benny on the team represents hope for the underdog to have a chance at making the team, he arguably is the worse D man, but he tries harder than anyone else o the backend especially Mo...........

All of a sudden, Brayden Schenn's naming is starting to come up again in articles and radio segments.
Pretty good cap hit for what he brings. Not sure about the price we'd have to pay for a trade though. To be honest, I'd rather trade pieces for Krieder and get one of the free agent 3C's (Donato, Gourde). Krieder was performing like a beast up until this year, which was filled with injury. He's a mean SOB.

I’d try harder than Mo but that doesn’t mean I should be on the ice.

I agree there is merit to having Benoit at 3LD but based on the Rielly reporting and the want for more PMD he is the most likely to move (whether that be a trade or moved to the press box).

I think Benny had an untapped skating component to his game which is interesting to see. Obviously you don’t want him to be green lit like a Holl to do whatever he wants but there’s a little more there.

I actually think of any pair that Rielly is on as the third pair. He’s 3 LD all the way until he proves otherwise. And I hope they cut his minutes to reflect his uselessness.
