Early off-season (for us anyways) thoughts of mine:
- Dump Kampf and Jarnkrok. I don;t think these are as bad as others, but Berube wasn't much of a fan and having a 2+ million dollar player in the press box is bad management. Can probably let go for a late pick, or add a late pick if needed
- Try move Robertson (rights), guy could score 25, but probably not here, not with this coaching staff
- Marner walks unless he wants to stay for something stupid like 10 per year. While we need change, Marner at 10 is infinitely times better than Ehlers at 8 or Boeser at 7. Neither of those guys moves the needle for me.
- JT could come back as the center depth is pretty weak in Free Agency. But short term and no more than 5 million.
- Would love to move out Domi, expensive offense only player, who doesn't provide the offense in line with his wages.
- Would replace Benoit in the lineup with Villeneuve, if he isn't ready then Myers. Sell Benoit high. Also would get OEL on his natural side. William has cooked in the AHL for 3 years now, was really good this past year.
- Explore options for Reilly, albeit with keeping in mind our d transition without him will be even worse than it already is.
- Maybe unpopular, but if there was every any appetite from Nylander to move, I'd entertain it. Guy can break a series open, but when he isn't scoring, he plays a top of the circle to top of the circle game as a stick waving pylon. I think the return could also be great.
- Would like adding Fabbro, Marchand, Roslovic, Gaudette as FA options. Bennett if the term was 5 years or less and $6 million or less. Which will never happen.
Lastly, the leafs breakouts at 5x5 and PP frustrated the heck out of me this playoffs more than normal. Hate the back pass to the single guy with speed play, everyone else is standing still. We don't have Mcdavid. The breakout pass to a forward who's flat footed and facing our own net was also very ineffective. Florida stepped up on these forwards and the play died right there, sometimes with Florida coming back at us in a hurry.
