If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

If you can dump Kampf or Jarnkrok I would take him in a heartbeat over them.

While you certainly can dump Kampf and/or Jarnkrok, you may need to do that anyways.

If you figure $15m for Knies, Tavares & Lorentz combined; it leaves you with approx $11m to spend on a #2/3C, a top 6 left winger, and a 3rd line right winger.

Let them buy him out. I do not want to give them assets for a retained Anderson. He's not even worth the 2.75M at 50% anyway. He's frustratingly inconsistent and has been poop for 2 straight seasons.
You know, Montreal has a bunch of picks.
While he’s inconsistent, he also has the right play style to complement the roster and the coach. Big fast. Happy to get in jerks faces, play like a jerk. Capable of being a playoff menace along those lines, albeit not a terribly productive one, historically.
He’d be one of those targets who’s skill set *could-should* play up in a predictable system with better play drivers. Get third line production generally, could maybe see an uptick. Plays good games in TO.
Plus the two year timeline is perfectly aligned.
At full freight, could you tease out a couple 2nds? A second and a third? In a toss away kinda deal.
That’s a buy low risk I could actually get behind.

If Josh Anderson gets bought out, I'd love to sign him to a low dollar, one year deal, where he can prove he should earn a bigger contract after.
Who would you want between Laughton and Anderson?

Quillan? Kuraly? Toews? Faksa? That could be a real 4th line. Laughton could play a little more nasty if he knew he had back up in Anderson.

I had listed options previously as.... Toews, Quillan, Holmberg, Krebs, Laughton, Haymes, McBain (but I doubt Utah moves him) Laughton/McBain/Anderson would be a ton of fun....

I think McBain might be closer to 3C but agreed...Laughton and Anderson on your 4th line wing immediately makes it a legit line.

McBain Laughton Anderson, really should be a third line when it comes down to it. Ideally your other third line is McMann Tavares XXX... so I'm not sure either is a fourth line in talent. Just a more balanced lineup.

What’s up with all this Anderson talk? Is there rumours he’s being shopped or wants out of Montreal? Last I heard was that they loved him out there.

Might be easier to just sign Jeannot in free agency to provide the toughness Anderson would bring and not waste any assets.

Jeannot - Laughton - Holmberg would be a fine fourth line.

Toews is such a wildcard.
I could see it going either way but I would be surprised if a player of his caliber and legacy would return after such a long layoff, if he didn't think and show that he could still be a useful piece.

If he shows to be healthy, his leadership and ability to play center will be a big addition for some team.

Rumours Anderson is being bought out. I'm not sure where that started, but I've seen it...

I don’t figure Tavares or Lorenz. Unless they are 4 million total they can play elsewhere

We are lacking a couple of snarly dogs that are mean but can also play hockey.
I would love to add a couple players like Bennett, Anderson etc. that would fill that void. These kind of players is probably what’s needed to get us over that hump.
And as much as I love Rielly it’s time to move on from him.
Those are my three wishes :crossfing

Boeser is an interesting option. He is friends with Matthews off the ice and could slot in nicely at RW on the top line. At 28, he is also the right age to fit in with the rest of the core.
before 2023 he had a bad run of being a Band-Aid guy...id be hesitant to give a contract based on the last 2 and ignore the 6 preceding

Boeser, Grandlund, P Suter and Crouse would be a big change for us imo, and a cheap Tavares would be golden on top of this.

If we can send Rielly for Sherwood++ or Garland, then you get even better.

Something that hit me yesterday - Robertson scored 15 goals last season in just 67 games while playing only 12 minutes a night. If you scale that up to 18 minutes over a full 82-game season, that’s a 28-goal pace. From a pure goal-scoring standpoint, that alone replaces Marner's goals.

Now imagine putting Robertson with a transition-driving center like Granlund or Duchene, and Nylander on the right wing—suddenly Robertson looks like a 30+ goal guy. And the best part? You free up $15 million to build a killer third line—something like a Luostarinen-Lundell-Marchand type line.

Sign Granlund or Duchene, sign Tavares to a value deal, then bring in Boeser or Marchand. That gives us "6 stars" and put 2 on each line, similar to Florida.

Top 9:

Knies – Matthews – Domi/Cowan - 90 goals
Robertson – Duchene – Nylander - 90 goals
McMann – Tavares – Boeser - 80 goals

You can’t just jack up a guy like Robertson’s time 30% and expect just an uptick in goals without other developmental pains. Maybe he figures it out or maybe he causes you massive systems problems or doesn’t have durability to handle the extra 6 minutes.

I wonder if Lukas Reichel could be a buy-low option? He's fast, I think, which is what we need. We need some cheap, young reclamation projects.

If he comes cheap and cheerful yes I would take a look. He would essentially fill the Rodion Amirov sized hole in our organization what with being a 2020 mid first rounder with skill upside.

Agreed. Rielly needs to be gone. He’s on the wrong side of 30 now and 5 more years will not look good

Get bigger and faster
