People saying sign Marchand in the offseason, the question is after tonight's performance why in the hell would he ever want to sign here with a bunch of LOSERS instead of staying in Florida where he can play with a team that has won a cup and is making their 3rd consecutive deep run in the playoffs?

The sun will rise tomorrow...

Just reset with Matthews, Nylander and Knies upfront. Pressure JT into taking a discount if he wants to stay. Dump the majority of the forward depth. Get aggressive to find a competent offensive defenseman.

And then... uh... let Treliving pull off some magic I guess.

Yep. Every forward outside of potentially those four can and should be replaced.

The D is fine.

See if another team would value Woll and then pull the trigger

Nobody wants to hear this but: This UFA class is absolute dogshit and unless we sign Bennett + Marchand with the money we would give Mitch, we probably need to bring him back, but for gods sake dont give him an NMC.

I'd wager that Marchand and Bennett both resign in Florida and we're stuck with what we got tho.

Ideal off-season assuming that:

-Find someone to take Mo, who thinks he still has some game left.
-Resign JT for some insane team friendly deal
-Cowan is more NHL ready than we think (doubtful)
-Revamp our PP with a real PP QB and someone with a one timer (i'd love Tolvanen, he also hits a ton)
-Add some dog on bone players who have f***ing passion. Florida goon'd it up in the first 4 games and we just took it.

If I were Marchand I would take less and stay with Florida or choose another team than come to the Leafs. Until this team makes major changes to the core and really shakes things up instead of switching out minor parts, then why would he or any other big free agent want to come here and be apart of a loser team? Heck if I'm picking a Canadian team I'd rather sign with the Oilers where their best players actually play like the best players in the playoffs most games instead of disappearing like ghosts much of the time.

Here is my burn it to the ground scenario.... the team doesn't make it past the first round.

Trade 1.

Matthews to LA Kings
for
Byfield
Clarke
Greentree
2025 1st

Rielly to Vancouver Canucks
for
Sherwood
2025 1st

Kampf, Domi, Jarnkrok traded away for... whatever picks we could get.

Signed as RFA
Knies 3 x $5.5 mil
Holmberg 1 x $900k

Signed as UFA
Granlund 6 x $6,000,000
Tavares 4 x $6,000,000
Provorov 6 x $7,500,000
Ehlers 6 x $7,515,850
Boeser 6 x $7,500,000
Steeves 1 x $900k
Lorentz 2 x $900k

Knies Granlund Nylander
Ehlers Byfield Boeser
McMann Tavares Cowan/Steeves/Greentree
Lorentz Laughton Sherwood
Holmberg

Provorov Carlo
McCabe Tanev
OEL Clarke
Benoit

Stolarz
Woll

The Cap hit for this is $91,122,065, so if I've underpaid anyone, we have plenty of cap room. It's radical.. .I know, but if we fail again, it's time for a change. Matthews is injured too often to be counted on, LA is a great destination for him, with attractive assets. Marner hasn't been a playoff guy, so we move on... and Rielly, well it's just time to change things up.

Greentree might not be a guy some of you know. 6'3" 216lb RW, drafted 26th OA by LA in 2024. In 64 games for the Spitfires, he has 49 goals and 119 points this year. Between him and Cowan, you've got a future top six RW there for sure... and in the future Nylander/Greentree/Cowan on the RW could be pretty strong, and the last two play with some grit.

Is this realistic... of course not, but we are just guys/gals(?) having fun talking about our team. I'm not sure the team is much better, but then, I'm tired of the same results, and these guys are about as good as I think we could get, given who I expect to make it to UFA. (Meaning I expect Bennett and Chychrun to extend with their current teams).

This was my idea in March... so... I suppose, we are finally at that spot where changes are made. We shall see what happens, or not.

-Matthews plus McMann for Byfield, Clarke, Kempe
-Nylander+ Rielly+ Woll
For Dhalin, Thompson
-Sign Ehlers, Gourde, Tanev, Jeannot

Knies Thompson Kempe
Ehlers Byfield Domi
Laughton Gourde Cowan
Tanev Holmberg Jeannot

Dahlin Tanev
McCabe Carlo
OEL Clarke
Benoit

It's bad every July 1st. If anything, right now, it's pretty solid if it stays the same. You rarely ever see a Marner hit free agency for one. But for the Leafs, there are plenty of options to fill out depth and needs. Using free agency is always like playing russian roulette but Treliving has done well to not have bad misses.

It can change quite a bit in a few weeks so we'll see.

He was the least of the problems, but I probably wouldn't bring Lorentz back. I would like the 4th line to be tough as nails, in your face and a nightmare to play against and Lorentz wasn't that. Of course, Jarnkrok gone as well.

Tanev - Laughton - Jeannot

I'd be shocked if he wasn't back. I'd be very careful with the money you give him because he's clearly a limited player but the guy loves the market and did have good moments. I'd give him a 2 year with a small bump in pay. Anything more than that and you're probably walking.
