If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Why would you trade McMann? He’s on a league minimum contract

It seems like you’re treating this like a video game.
Bringing in those players is not what Tre is going for. That just makes them smaller, and softer

What has Mcmann proven these playoffs so far? He's probably been our worst offensive player this series. Sure, he has these bursts where he scores goals and forechecks well, but they're just way to spread out. Majority of the time, he's a bottom 6 player who when he's not doing those things, he doesn't bring much of anything. Atleast with the players listed above, you know what you're going to get every game, not too mention what the return for Mcmann could be considering we just emptied our cupboards regarding draft picks.

Jinx thread... McMann goes on a tear now.

Top hitter of the entire team with 17 hits in 4 games and has had plenty of chances. He can find another gear, but it's not like he's been bad. It's been 4 games.

Any interest in Perry as a 4th liner? He’s still producing and making an impact at 39. Scored again last night
He is standing at the edge of the precipice. The addition the Leafs should have made instead of Simmonds I think. Let the old man rest in peace..

I hear you. Still productive in the playoffs though. League minimum. What’s the risk?

I'd love to acquire Kesselring from Utah.
Maybe you can move OEL to a team in need of LHD.
Make a Benoit - Kesselring pairing and you have a young RHD that can move up the depth chart when Tanev declines.

I can assure you that Danford will absolutely not be ready to step into the Leafs defensive top six next year.
Not next year I am also 95 percent sure of that. He would benifit from another year in junior. He is a solid prospect, but he needs to find more offence. I see him as a guy who can be a Chris Phillips type.

Life without Marner with around 9-10m cap space to spare:

Domi Matthews Nylander
Knies (6.5m) Tavares (7m) Cowan
Lorentz Laughton Tanev
McMann Kampf Jarnkrok
Holmberg

McCabe Tanev
Rielly Carlo
OEL Benoit

Stolarz
Woll

That seems terrible. This team will never be a team with cap space to spare anyway.

I could see a scenario where Marner dosent sign and then Mathews wants out .
Marner signs with Chicago and the Mathews wants to play with his set up man .
Chicago is desperate to keep Bedard happy, they have 59 mil cap next season.
They have alot of 1st Rd pks alot of young players
What would the Mathews trade look like also we sign and trade Marner for the 8 the yr.
We won't get the top 10 pk this year
They have. Flo pk and 2 next year plus young prospects

At this point - if Matthews is forcing a trade to one team you have no leverage. You'd have to be happy to get Chicago's first this year and move on. None of their prospects are that enticing anyway.

9-10m to add/upgrade that lineup posted. Ideally you would want Cowan pushed down the lineup in his rookie season and a legit top six RW to take his place.

Domi Matthews Nylander
Knies (6.5m) Tavares (7m) --------------
Lorentz Laughton Tanev
McMann Kampf Cowan
Jarnkrok/Holmberg

McCabe Tanev
Rielly Carlo
OEL Benoit

Stolarz
Woll

Even without the upgrade its still a playoff team.

It might be but Leafs desperately need efficient 5 on 5 players. I don't think I can handle another bottom 6 that gets caved and having to put our top player in all defensive situations because of it. Replacing a 100p all around elite player is very hard. There isn't much in free agency that makes me optimistic and they have very little assets to make a trade for a significant upgrade.

Only removing Marner isn't going to change the function or culture of the team.

Provided they actually fumble this series and/or go out meekly to Florida in the next, you'll need to make quite a few more changes to actually accomplish something.

Agreed but Matthews & Nylander are locked up and JT is probably coming back because the UFA market for centers is nonexistent.

Then you may as well bring Marner back then, too, because changing just him won't do a thing.
Its the start of dismantling the core. The main issue is the entire core four/five would all be support players on legit cup winning teams. Not a single leader among the Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Tavares/Rielly group. We've seen this before with Kessel & Phaneuf being pushed into top roles, only to be demoted on other successful teams.

So why is it only Marner?

You've got to be prepared to crack some eggs to make a new omelet.
