If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

I think Domi stays because of his versatility playing 3C or up the line up on the wing. With the rising cap 3.75 doesn't sting too bad, it's basically kerfoot money.
He can play 3C or top 6 wing but the issue is he can't play them well. Definitely not 3.75M well. They'd be better off signing a player with a defined role and trying to move off Domi.

Dallas needs to clear out space. I can see Robertson+FLA 2nd or even EDM 3rd for Marchment. Marchment and Dumba will probably both be traded and I can see them trying to do right by Marchment given the circumstances when he signed and sending him home to Toronto. His wife is also from the area.
Sign me up.

It largely depends how the playoffs go. If they lose in the 2nd round and Domi's line continues to get caved in I could see it. If they need cap space I could also see it.

A quick second round exit might be enough, I'd agree there.

Though Tre strikes me as someone who 'has his guys' and won't want get rid of them unless absolutely necessary. And I suspect Domi doing enough highlight moments like the OT goal in game two will be enough to keep him around (even if the wider picture shows some issues with his performance). So at the moment I'd be surprised to see him traded before Kampf/Jarnkrok ect

I would do this in a heartbeat, doubt Dallas would but please lord.

It's very likely that Marchment is the odd man out after Dumba (and this is assuming Duchene/Benn both sign for 3M). Can they get a 1st for Marchment as a pending UFA? I don't think so. Would #54 and Robertson be the best offer given his 10 team NTC? Maybe. Would they try to do right by him and send him somewhere he wants to play if the offers are comparable? I would think yes.

I see all 3 out the door to make room. If Domi doesn't have any other big moments for the remainder of their run, which is entirely possible, the OT winner will be forgotten. No one remembers Kerfoot for his OT winner.

Interesting scenario.

If that were to happen, then 100% Domi would have to be moved, partly to make cap space and partly because there wouldn’t be room on LW, unless we move on from McMann.

McMann is a lower cap hit and easily slides into 3LW.

Domi cannot be the 3C going forward, so if he’s not in the top 6, I don’t see where he would fit.

I had heard that Marchment and Toronto was a big possibility when he was a UFA.

Niemela won't be back unless he commits to put on bulk, look at our defense. But we don't have room in our top 5 next year either. The Leafs need to find the next Weber or Suban in the 2nd.
Our drafting has been so poor. 12 picks in 2020 and nothing.

Between 2019 and 2021 we have Matthew Knies thank god but that's it.

I’d see Dallas moving Jason Robertson before Marchment. Clears more room. Get a better return and have heard complaints on his foot speed already.

Looking back at the deadline, I'm glad we missed out on B. Schenn as the main target and ended up with a stronger defensive upgrade in Carlo instead.
I don’t consider us “missing out” on either Schenn.

As much as Luke Schenn coming back was a feel good story no doubt, Carlo is a much better fit, both now and as a long term piece for us.

Not loving the Laughton trade (he’s playing better though) but I have a feeling we really would have hated what the payment would have been for Brayden.

Schenn has been a non-factor in the St Louis playoff battle. He hits a bit but seems "used up". Currently behind Laughton in production while playing almost 17:00 a night . Imagine if he brought that to Toronto. And he has 3 x $6.5m left. The Laughton deal was as bad as I feared (not a center) but I think they dodged a real bullet with B Schenn.

A shame Laughton has fit more so as our 4th line center because our issue pre trade deadline of our third line is really showing this playoff round.

Something I hope we can really address this up-coming off-season.

Looking forward, I think our 2LW is showing it needs improvement.

McMann is a nice story but he’s not consistent enough, and depending on who we can sign, Domi may be expendable.

Offseason priorities need to be:

2/3C
3LW
3RHD

Personally I would replace Marner(way too expensive unfortunately)
Domi
Kampf
Jarnkrok
Robertson

Replace next season with:
Gourde
B. Tanev
Cowen
Ehlers
Jeannot

I agree with the players out

We need Armstrong if things go south
Smartest GM in the NHL

Gourde and Tanev to old and to much money.
Ehlers and jeannot to expensive

Cowen yes unless they think he can be a center, then the AHL.

I would be surprised to see Cowan start the year in the NHL next season, not saying he cannot do it but I’d be very surprised. I think he’ll need some time and development in the AHL before making the jump.

Love the idea of adding Jeannot onto our fourth line. Lorentz - Laughton - Jeannot would be such a pain in the ass to play against. I’m all for it.

If he was a center that would be great.

A 3rd line center in the same mold would be great because I think Laughton and Lorenz have more offense in them
Our 3rd and 4th line are interchangeable in the playoffs.

Any interest in Perry as a 4th liner? He’s still producing and making an impact at 39. Scored again last night
