Does anyone have a projected cap for the leafs next year with the big guys back ?

I did some rough numbers and it’s going to be really tight

Tanev is a decent option.

Kiefer Sherwood is a Vancouver player I'd love to grab. (Not a free agent) He's a late bloomer, but put up 40 points, and 462!! hits this year. He's about the same size as Tanev.

Jack McBain is another guy I'd love to target. Good size, super physical, can play C as well. Toronto boy, but just a RFA at this point.

However... Alex Steeves had 19 hits, in 7 games with us, while putting up 2 points, and being a +3. He put up 36 goals in 59 games... why we don't give him a shot, I'll never know.

Steeves is very vanilla when up, doesn't take chances but stifles his own offense...

I'd like Sherwood but Vancouver has no reason to trade him on that sweetheart contract, they'd get a lot for him at the TDL if they're out. Taylor Raddysh is another guy to watch for.

I'd give a stupidly large amount for McBain.

Krebs is another guy to look out for.

Kirivanta would add speed we lack.

We do look very slow compared to Ottawa.

I like the idea of adding Krebs.

McMann (1.35) - Krebs (1.45) - ________
Lorentz (1.35) - Laughton (1.5) - ________

Assuming we re-sign Lorentz. That’s a combined 5.65 million total on four out of six bottom six players.

I also like the idea of potentially adding someone like Mantha who would be cheap coming off an injury. He could add some solid secondary scoring and if you pair him up with two defensively responsible players, it could work pretty well.

Glass is another guy I’ve always just liked. Big, can also play center and brings a solid two-way game.

McMann - Krebs - Mantha
Lorentz - Laughton - Glass

For 3C I want to add Krebs
For 3RHD I want to add Korczak

Knies-Matthews-Marner
McMann-Tavares-Nylander
Domi-Krebs-Robertson
Lorentz-Laughton-Tanev
Holmberg-Quillan-Steeves

McCabe-Tanev
Rielly-Carlo
OEL-Korczak
Benoit-Myers

I’m not as down on Rielly as others are here. I think there is more to see there as he has more familiarity with Carlo. He does absolutely need to lose 10-15 lbs in the offseason and improve his conditioning.

Moving on from:
Reaves
Kampf
Jarnkrok
Patches
Hakanpaa

Not huge changes but needed ones that won’t be the sexiest names but make us better, are somewhat plausible and have development potential for us going forward.

I’m really high on Raddysh - I wanted him last year. I hope he makes it to UFA and the Leafs get him on a Wood/LOC/DOC/Carrier style deal.

I’ve always liked Raddysh as well, thought his season in Chicago a couple years ago was going to be his coming out party but that hasn’t really been the case.

I would be fine adding Raddysh, the only knock on him is his skating IMO. I would really try and add speed in our bottom six this off-season.

and yet... Raddysh has a top 10 speed in skating these playoffs. (Surprised me too)

Brandon Tanev ranks top 10 in the regular season.

If you want another speedy option on the 4th line, Nathan Bastian, Mississauga boy, brings speed, size, physicality... but nothing offensively. He's a UFA.

Joel Kirivanta is the Teemu version of Brandan Tanev lol. No ability to fight or much of a physical game but pretty physical. 16 goals in the regular season but nothing so far for the Avalanche in the playoffs.

But...

Cowan-Krebs-Raddysh
Lorentz-Laughton-Tanev

Could be fun.

If there is any chance at all McDavid is available next summer, then we need to make sure we keep flexibility and don't commit to any moronic deals.

Jeannot would be a nice addition onto our fourth line IMO,

Lorentz - Laughton - Jeannot

Would be such a pain in the ass to play against.

Krebs would be another nice addition into our bottom six,

McMann - Krebs - Robertson

His skating is why I’d want him - his top speed was 80th percentile this season. His speed bursts were also 80th percentile.

I'd be pretty stunned if Robertson is on the leafs next year to be honest. He's not a fit for our third line, takes a lot of dumb penalties. If I had to guess Kampf/Jarnkrok/Robertson are all out this offseason
I think he's done as well. It becomes a problem when you have too many 'misfit' type players that don't have a defined role. We already have one exception in Domi and we choose to work with it because Domi can be a big game player as evidenced by his OT goal, but beyond that we shouldn't entertain these types of players anymore, it creates a lot of issues with matchups and trying to balance out the lineup. Berube has had to constantly juggle Domi and Robertson around the lineup because they just don't fit anywhere properly and give him problems with his line matching.

I haven’t watched him clearly in a little while but his skating was always an area he could improve on, especially being a bigger guy. If that’s now one of his strong suits, bring him on!

Domi also works in a pinch, if let's say Marner gets hurt. He can go on the wing with Matthews. There's a value in players that can play with stars.

Very tight with Knies probably getting 6+ on a short term deal.

Leafs need to find a way to clear these contracts to make it all work:

Domi, Max $3,750,000
Kampf, David $2,400,000
Jarnkrok, Calle $2,100,000
Reaves, Ryan $1,350,000
$9,600,000

I'm fine going higher on Knies, 7M x 8 years? Isn't as productive as Boldy and had higher quality linemates than Boldy

Myers will have to go on waivers, but he has two years, so we'll see if anyone would claim him. If someone does, well, Leafs could always play Benning if push came to shove

Lorentz doesn't get that little.
Marner is overpaid
Tavares isn't going that low

The team wouldn't be rolling with zero spares either.

There's a good chance their all gone.

The Leafs will want to free up cap for free agency, and and they won't want to stay where they're being healthy scratched.

Robertson at least will likely return a pick. He's shown enough that there will be a few interested teams. The others will have to be given away

Dallas seems like a good landing spot for him. They will need some "cheap" players to fill out ranks. They are pretty well capped out. His brother being there would probably be enticing I think. No idea about the return, but I think a very likely scenario for Robertson. Leafs got Leach from them, so there might be a prospect or two that he likes a lot?

Domi and Kampf should both be gone in my eyes. That frees up 6.15 million in space for a 3C, provided if Laughton takes the 4C hole.

Domi has high moments but he’s too inconsistent and vulnerable defensively.

I think we'll just have better options in the off-season. No knock on Robertson, I think he developed his game a lot this year.

He's just better suited to be playing top 6 mins on a team like Chicago or San Jose for his career.

I think Domi stays because of his versatility playing 3C or up the line up on the wing. With the rising cap 3.75 doesn't sting too bad, it's basically kerfoot money.

Dallas needs to clear out space. I can see Robertson+FLA 2nd or even EDM 3rd for Marchment. Marchment and Dumba will probably both be traded and I can see them trying to do right by Marchment given the circumstances when he signed and sending him home to Toronto. His wife is also from the area.
