Someone on the main board said Bennett will not be going to a Canadian team. Has anyone heard this ? I don’t remember seeing anything on this

It doesn't make sense that some rando HF board member can make that call. It would be just speculation because I really doubt that Bennett has already decided to move away from Florida yet so a bit early for circulating the places he won't go to. Just some goob fanboy's hot air.

Now if in a couple of months he decides he is not returning to Florida, he wants a powerful team to go to, doesn't want the Manitoba hinterland and hates Tre for letting him go it isn't illogical. But not an early April decision he would be compelled to share.

The more I watch us play, we may need to redo the bottom 6.

If Marner doesn't come back, stick Domi on Matthews wing. Get rid of Kampf, Jarnkrok. Bring back Lorentz, sign Tanev.

While the cap is going up significantly the next couple of years, the Leafs unfortunately don't really have much wiggle room depending on what happens this off season. With all of Marner, Knies and Tavares needing contacts, it's going to be impossible to keep all 3. Personally, as hard as it would be to replace him, I think Marner is the one you have to move on from in order to gain some flexibility. If Tavares were to accept a 5 yr x 5 million, obviously heavily front loaded and bonuses, Knies signs for 8 x 8. Then you give yourself some flexibility to replace Marner and reshape our bottom 6 which needs a huge overhaul.

Yeah, it's going to be a tough decision.

One thing I do know though, we cannot lose Knies. He's not even a poor's man's Brady Tkachuk. He's a middle class man's Brady Tkachuk.

It’s not impossible to keep all 3, if that’s what they intend to do

This is exactly why you bridge Knies for 3 years and pay him the bigger money on his 3rd contract still as an RFA

In a perfect world, you’d do 8 to keep future cap % down, but our cap space now is simply more important.

With the Rangers team in a complete mess of a situation, I wonder if there's anyone we can trade for using Rielly+ as trade pieces. Trocheck? Zibanejad? Kreider?

If Tavares goes, Trocheck or Z may be good replacement options (the latter would be costly though).

Kreider has had a putrid season and may be a "buy low" candidate. I think it's just been an odd year for him and he will excel in another setting. A potential Marner replacement if Marner goes (along with another FA forward).

Bring in Kreider (6.5) and sign Provorov (7?) to replace Marner (14?) and Rielly (7.5). Plenty of money left for raises and another forward (Ehlers? Boeser?).

Knies is the biggest concern this off season, only because there's a lot of teams that have cap space and with the threat of offer sheets, he should be our #1 priority to sign first. Marner and Tavares can come after.

I wouldn't be to worried about an offer sheet

I seriously doubt we'd be stupid enough to box ourselves into a situation where we couldn't match anything coming in and the compensation for an offer good enough to make you think would be astronomical

It works better for a Broberg or Holloway type who hasn't broken out yet and you don't know if matching is worth it

They could replace Jarnkrok, Kampf and Domi with cheaper options and not even have to bridge Knies if they so choose. Lots of dead weight in the bottom six forward group

Florida has enough cap space to extend Bennett, and I would expect that to happen. He's also a player that I would expect to experience a decline, at an earlier age based on play style.

Fair? Unfair? I'm aware a guy like Rielly could agree not to waive, I pumped up the AAV on guys like Armia, JT and Kane to get a 1 year deal versus term as I would like to be in a position to get McDavid the following year.

If Marner walks Domi isn't a bad replacement on Matthew's RW, he's not Marner but he will pass the puck which suits Matthew's

If Knies is willing to sign for 8 years I'd be willing to give him what Brady got in Ottawa, with the cap rising he'd have to fall into a hole not to be worth that contract in a few years time

Kane RW
Roslovic W/C

Ehlers in his 8th. fight last night. Isn't winning many but that's not the point.
To paraphase the Cinderrella quote (note 1)...
While he didn't win the fights, the point gentlemen is he fought.

Note 1:
"And while Cinderella and her Prince did live happily ever after, the point, gentleman, is that they lived"

I think Ehlers is going to get overpaid, he's a good player but I'd be careful
Kane is good but getting on in age so I'm leery of him and I don't mind Roslovic but somebody is going to see a center and throw a ton of money at him imo

Kane on a one year deal wouldn't be a bad "replacement" for Marner, especially if it's near the dollars he took this year. It's fine as long as you don't commit term.

Everyone is going to get paid this upcoming year... unfortunate, but true.

Roslovic isn't a C, and hasn't been one for years. To me, he's kind of a Domi.. not physical, not great defensively, can pinch at C, but you'd rather not...

I like the idea of picking up Kane. I'm not a fan of the Detroit trade, and I doubt Rielly waives to go there. I think it would have to be a West Coast team....

it's refreshing to hear LeBrun say "Yeah Knies is not taking an offer sheet, he wants to be in Toronto" Boy some can learn from how he's doing these negotiations!

I considered Detroit because of the fact Tessa Virtue's family are in the Windsor area - I had previously thought the West is more likely.

I'd be curious what Seattle would want on top of Rielly for Dunn as apparently they wanted to shake up their D core.

Wouldn't offer more than a 1 year to play with Matthews deal to Kane.

Ehlers would be if marner walks.

Roslovic would be as a winger who can help at center, and not being paid as a consistent 20 goal scorer. He has some good years and he has some not so good years. He'd be a depth player, maybe just better than existing depth players.

I think Domi can do that RW job next to Matthew's, it's looked solid when we've tried it and I think we're going to need some money to sort out the bottom 6

She's grim down there
