Because when Philly gave him that they thought he was going to grow into a #1D, he's probably a #3D and I'm sure somebody will throw money at him but 7M+ is a lot for a #3D

I can see islanders being very interested in Marner and I can see him wanting to play there. He would be the star player and it would essentially be his team. Also Matt Martin is his buddy and he would convince him to come there.

I prospose a trade of Marners rights plus Rielly and Kampf

Not much other than stat watching the past couple of years, odd write-ups.
Thought he was an interesting guy last off-season, a lot about his profile is a nice fit with this roster. Signed later in the off-season, bit of a one-year show me deal. Not sure what his market might be this year.
RS C/RW, in his prime. Offence first kinda guy. I think he was drafted pretty high, moved at the deadline last year. I think he’d be a good complementary offensive guy anywhere in the top 9.
His per 60 stats are pretty impressive.
I think I read somewhere that he’s got some connection to 34, too. (Boeser too).

At $2.8 mil he's been reasonably good value. He's kind of a vanilla player. Despite decent size, he provides no physicality. He was given the opportunity to be a 2/3 C in Columbus a few years ago, and wasn't good enough defensively to solidify that role. He is relatively sheltered defensively, with a lot of starts in the Ozone, which is what you need to do with him. I’d say he’s a lot like Domi in terms of utility, lack of physicality, not great defensively, about the same production in points, but more goals. Can we afford another weak defensive winger in that price range? He’s paid less than Domi, as he missed a lot of time the year before and needed up having to sign a one year deal later on.

Definitely can't have both him and Domi on the roster. One or the other.

I could maybe get to something like 6.5M x 6 years on Provorov, provided we were able to move on from Rielly.

I think a lot of people are going to have sticker shock, when they see the contract inflation, due to the Cap inflation. It's really best to look at things from a cap percentage, instead of absolute dollars.

$6.5 million just a couple of years ago, was 8% of the cap.

That same 8% for this coming year, at $95.5 will be $7.64 mil.

I don't think he is homophobic, I think he was towing the country line and not wanting to endanger any family that may be in Russia.

You might be right, but no matter the motivation, it has the potential to be an issue. Who knows though, most of this stuff blows over quickly, and we are on to the next outrage issue.

They are at a crossroad of decisions. They can't commit all their dollars. Lorentz should be an easy signing but still will get a bump in pay.

I think the rest of the dollars will heavily depend what happens in the next 6 weeks.
