I don't think they can offer him alot considering they just signed Rantanen.
Time to swoop in.
It's going to be Granlund who is set free.

Fair points. He was hard to gamble on. He was a -30 last year, and while that isn't a stat that always tells the right story, in this case it did. He's a bit injury prone, and has missed a lot of time. I just don't think that was the guy we were going to gamble on at that point. We needed defense first guys, more than an offensive guy, who was weak defensively and missed a lot of time.
Given some things have changed with Rielly not fitting in with Berube's system, and our perception of Chychrun changing, due to finally breaking out, and playing nearly a full season, our thoughts on Chychrun changed as well. Yes.. the Washington version of Chych is a guy that would be great. The version from the past few years, maybe not.
I’m kinda expecting a rebound next year for Mo.Fair points.
The other question I have is would Chychrun struggle under Berube’s system like Rielly appears to be?
No way to know but I have a hunch that a significant part of his renaissance this year is playing in Washington’s system.
Based on Rielly’s current struggles, I’m not 100% sure that Chychrun would have faired better here.
Rielly has his warts but I think he is workable. I think we still need to add a 3RHD if they don’t think Myers is it.
Doesn’t have to be a big get, someone of Peeke’s calibre is an improvement, with Korczak being the ideal piece to add.
Summer 2025
Out Marner Tavares Reilly
In Bennett 7x8, Boeser 7x7 Provorov 5x5.5 Donato 4x4.5

That team would be immediately miles tougher to play against and deep at all positionsBoeser and Provorov probably get more. But id.still show interest if Marner walks

Chychrun is far superiorChychrun just got 9 million dollars, you think Provorov is getting 5.5?
He might be but I'd be shocked if Provorov doesn't get 6.5-7M long termChychrun is far superior
Agreed with the bolded. I think time and familiarity with Carlo can help Rielly rebound.I’m kinda expecting a rebound next year for Mo.
I could see him pairing with Carlo better and better.
Pervix could be a great fit. And I always like Dante Fabbro as a post-hype buy.
Both could round out the D corps very nicely.,
Id be ok at 6-6.5He might be but I'd be shocked if Provorov doesn't get 6.5-7M long term

Because Tavares and his contract will not age well. Based on this seasons performance he will likely command 8-9 million on a 4-5 year deall and there are teams that will do it, is that something you're interested in? I sure as hell am not. It's amazing that people actually seem to be watching the Leafs this year, and just want to dump Tavares. It strikes me as incredibly odd.
Bennett will extend with Florida, so that won't be an option anyway.

Bennett is also 28 and not 34 and the last 5-7 years that 8 million will likely equate to what maybe 5 million in today's cap worldBut, you are happy paying a guy 7 years x $8 million, who plays a physical game, where he'll likely begin to fall off sharply in a couple of years, who has never put up more than 49 points?
Tavares is point per game this year, and Bennett never was, and never will be more productive. I also doubt that Tavares gets $8-9 million... I'd expect $7 mil, and hope with deferral the cap hit is lower.
Bottom line though, Bennett is not likely to be an option for us.
Tavares on a 2 year deal at 7 million sure but why would he do that? There is likely a number of teams who would give him that if not more on a 3-4 year dealI’m okay with re-signing Tavares. Just hoping there’s a hometown discount AND some deferred money lowering the cap hit.
I can see him easily getting 7 million on the open market, hoping we can sign him around 5.5 million per with money given to him down the road making up the difference.
Tavares on a 3 year deal around 6 and slowly transition him to LW would be ideal and have no issues with thatI’m not the biggest Tavares enjoyer but I don’t see why he can’t have a similar late career to Pavelski. He’s relatively injury free and is a threat for 30 even if his skating falls off. 8 or 9 obviously not but I don’t think he’s a lock to turn to dust in 3 years. As long as the contract is priced with him being a winger towards the end of it I think it’s fine.

It's a valid point but it's also an unknown seeing as he still so relatively YoungYes, there is an age difference... but take a look at every other player, who plays a tough, physical style, and when they break down. It's 30, 31.... Bennett and Tavares are likely on the same decline path, because they play differently. Tavares will likely start to decline at 36, 37 .. about the same time Bennett does.
