Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Lizotte makes 1.85, Kampf makes 2.4. I'm not going to gripe about the difference.

But as it stands, isn't Laughton the 4th C in Berube's eyes?

Production has been solid in that role

I think Laughton will give zero offense at 4C but 4th line wing? I think he could provide more offense.

Brandan Tanev just provided 0 pts in 13GP and historically doesn't provide offense in the playoffs.

Tanner Jeannot...also think he will be paid a decent amount and not do anything offensively.

Hey, it's an idea.

I know I'm likely in the minority, but I'd just keep Kampf there. He and the 4th line in general will be greatly helped by not having Reeves strapped to him.

I'm not a Kampf guy...but honestly it doesn't matter what I think but I don't think Berube does, he scratched him all but 1 game in the playoffs.

f*** me that doesnt bode well for having Tree at the top lol

Leafs pro scouting probably could use a reshape. The amateur side of things is already getting change, but the pro scouting has been pretty iffy. I think Dave Morisson is still the head oncho for the pro scouting.

But I will say this was probably way before the Leafs had the defenders they have and could have been a situation they tried to buy very low on a player. Until bad stuff actually happens, all we can do is judge what has actually happened.

Nor does it matter what I think, lol, and I think it's likely he will get moved,

But with Kampf, he's unspectacular, so I get it. But I think he's effective, and for the 600k difference between Lizotte or whoever is as good in that role, it isn't a big deal now that they won't have as much money in the top guys.

Ive been a noted and outspoken Dave Morrison hater for a long time

If we can pull these off, that would be great. Even if we can get the rumoured Marner sign and trade done with Vegas and grab Karlsson as our defensive #2C to play with Willy, and drop Tavares to the 3rd line, we’d be in pretty good shape.

I’d like to avoid going big spending on future long term bloated contracts like the ones Bennett and Boeser are about to get.
That's a thing?

That's a thing?

Dreger the other day was saying he could see it because the 8th year would help potentially lower the AAV, get Marner more $$ etc.

That could get Toronto maybe a 3rd round pick or if they added maybe William Karlsson?

It makes sense to me because if Marner doesn't wanna be here, he might have a couple places in mind....so point to where you wanna go, get your 8th year, it's 10-15M more in his pocket.

Got it. Not sure I'd classify that as a rumour, sounds like something that would be proposed here.

I think it has legs here because Dreger reported on it, he's close to Nonis who at least has some level of communication with Tree from the Calgary days.

It makes sense that the Leafs, low on draft picks would be inclined to try to get as many assets/draft picks as possible.

Yes.

You would hope for a lot more than a 3rd rounder, though.

Guentzel's rights were a 3rd round pick last year.

I'd love William Karlsson but if I had to add, I would.
I wouldn't add, I would say "that's the deal, or bye."

They need to use leverage well here and create a kind of derby for his rights.

Vegas, if they want him, they will be competing against a few teams that will likely blow their brains out on it, and given their cap crunch issue, they can't.

I'd love for that to happen.

Questions will become answers in just a bit over a month from now.

Leading up to July 1st. some team may tip their hand by selling a contract or two.

Barbashev going out could cover the marner ticket.

No,
do you just look at like each teams last 3 or 4 top picks and then pool them together for leaf players lol
No, I look at a team like Detroit who sure, might have drafted well lately but haven't really taken a step and maybe use some of those recent draft picks to get more established players, one being a superstar in Willy
