Speculation: Roster Building/Rumor Thread XVI

The way sources generally work is either

1. Super conservative and never posts news until it's basically confirmed
2. Posts everything they are hearing which results in many things that don't happen which means means everyone says you make things up because they don't understand the majority of talks never come to fruition

I have no idea about his status but he's obviously in the (2) group if providing real info.

Smith seemed like a great guy and good teammate, but he also proceeded to do nothing but eat cake and get fat as shit after getting that extension. Rendering himself utterly useless year 1 when the team was banking on him to be a top 4 guy.

So best of luck to him, he'll find a home someplace as a depth guy....but also kinda F him. He screwed this team.

They have the space to bring back everyone and possibly sign Landeskog (im pretty certain he stays in Colorado or make a move for Tarasenko.

As far as trades go, unless hes moving off his roster, he doesn't have a ton of capital. Hes moved a ton of draft picks and his farm system sucks balls.

That's why Incarcerated Bob broke Panarin to the Rangers two summers ago and Bob McKenzie is going to break Panarin to the Rangers two summers from now.

Not going to complain over Smith, I disliked the whole thing back when it was a rumor the Rangers were going to trade for him. Yet assuming he'll sign for a year cheap, this is probably the only time they could have actually maybe received any sort of value out of that whole thing.

With IB, what makes him unique re: rumors is that he does it for all sports. My guess is, he must have inside info through an agency like CAA or something similar. I don't think he's guessing. He doesn't bother with the day to day stuff. So he doesn't seem to bring things up just to start conversations and speculation and then nothing happens. So, when he says things definitively, it's often worth paying attention to.
