That's just known interest. I'd guess at least 6 or 7 teams considered it, especially teams that feel they have a stable room and coach.

Did people really dispute that other teams would be interested?

The whole point is that no team wanted to spend assets to take on his contract from the Rangers and the Rangers didn't care enough to pay assets or retain salary to trade him. The buyout works better for the Rangers than retaining on his contract and sending an asset to move him.

Now that he's a FA sure teams are interested. However, it's still a 1 year deal for a guy who put up a ton of points just 2 years ago

Well, the idea that a young, RHS D UFA who was top-five in D scoring and not convicted of anything wouldn’t have interest is completely disconnected with reality.

We ruined any chance we had of reaping value from him. Colossal unforced error.

He is a top offensive defenseman in the league character issues not withstanding. It makes sense for a team to take flyer on a cheap contract for the upside.

Why wouldnt there be interest? I always thought there would be, but I dont see any one giving more than a 1 year 'prove it' deal
