To Nashville: Ross Colton ($4m X 3 years, LW/C, 28 years old) + pick(s)

To Colorado: Colton Sissons @50% (~$1.4m X 2 years, C/RW, 30 years old) + pick(s)

Seravalli said earlier this week that Colton is available, and Friedman has now also specifically mentioned Nashville as having interest.

The idea for the Avs in trading Colton would be to find cap space to re-sign Drouin. If the Avs do move Colton though they'd also need to find a replacement 3C.

Swapping Colton ($4mx3) for Sissons at 50% retained ($1.4m X2) would give the Avs the necessary capspace to re-sign Drouin at ~$4m, along with a 3C to replace Colton.

Sissons is two years older than Colton and doesn't have the offensive upside Colton does (eg. 40 points this year), but he's better defensively and on face-offs so would arguably be a better fit for what coach Bednar typically wants from his 3rd line.

Not sure what picks/prospects would need to be added on either side to balance value, but Colton for Sissons@50% seems like a logical basis for a trade given the Avs' needs and the rumoured interest from Nashville in Ross Colton.

Easy pass from the Preds. Sissons plays good defense for us. We’ll keep that and the Cap savings thanks.

What would the Avs need to add to make it worth it for Nashville in your opinion?

A lot. The 5 points per season added isn’t worth the defensive zone hit to a purely shutdown Center role, nevermind paying that role effectively $5.4M/year for 2 years for the pleasure when they have the player they want in the role making half of that. You’d probably be talking a 1st +.

Probably check out the ask for 50% retention for 2 years to downgrade on an already good contract for a player that fits into the lineup well. What incentive does Nashville have to make this swap otherwise?

Edit: Downgrade AND get more expensive AND help out a direct divisional rival. Yeah, 1st plus is easily the ask here.
