Prospect Info: Rory Kerins, C, 174th pick in 2020

I'm heading to my first Wranglers game on Sunday, Mr. Kerns will be someone I'll be watching for sure.
So I forgot to report back, and it's a simple analysis.

Kerins was never out of position, plays a solid 200-foot game, very smart, a bit crafty but won't blow you away offensively. His intelligence compensates for a lack of elite speed.

Reminds me a bit of Daymond Langkow.

I've said before I wanted them to leave Kerins alone in the AHL this year so he could have that stability to develop as a key piece, but with his play not dipping at all in December and the contract coming up will be a nice chance to reward him and see what you've got in him before signing that next deal.

Uncertain that he will be iced tomorrow...Why? Just play him as 3rd C. Not that difficult Ryan.
There is a massive, MASSIVE adjustment for playing in the show. Kerins himself may tell you he’d like to get comfortable before his first NHL game, the pace difference is incredible even compared to the AHL.

We and him have nothing to lose really...

Absolutely, that's why it's never a bad thing for a kid to watch a game or 2 from the press box and get a few practices in with the team before their first game. After that though, he needs to play nightly

Couldn’t agree more, doubt the Flames would’ve called him up instead of a low ceiling 4th liner like Klapka if the plan wasn’t to give him some games in Zary’s absence. Kerins probably gets wing duties while Sharangovich shifts to C though to help the adjustment, although I’ve been wrong before.

Spend some time doing high tempo practices then get inserted if the times right. Assuming Zary is out for a week or two, let him sit when he struggles as well to get some film in. Personally not a huge believer in his potential, but give him the best opportunity to assert himself in the NHL.

He's a smart player. Got that same Monahan knack of being in the right place at the right time. Picks off passes well in the NZ. Extends offensive plays. Knows how to play in a 5 man unit.

I don't expect great things from him really but there's plenty of solid NHL players with that profile that don't have a ton of physical ability. I could see Huska liking him and them doing well together. Probably a lot more than Kuzmenko anyway.

i know nothing about this players game but I looked at his statline and he's 4th in scoring in the AHL right now. More surprising though is he's the 2nd youngest player among the top 20 AHL point producers!

Definitely has me curious, hope we see him play a few games at least.

In the Calgarypuck thread about him people were saying that Kerins' dad coached Monahan growing up and Kerins looked up to him. Hence the picture of him in a Monahan jersey on the first page.

Neat little connection there. His goal scoring does remind me of Monahan, I remember that even in his OHL highlights.

Two assists in his debut. Kerins haters and unbelievers in shambles

I don’t watch the Wranglers so I’ve never seen Kerins play. Any opinions are secondhand from other posters on this site.

Saying that, I was very happy with his first game even beyond the 2 assists. It’s great that he was able to start on a line with Pelletier and have their chemistry help the adjustment. I thought he was quick, especially through the neutral zone, back checked well and didn’t treat the puck like a grenade. Hopefully he can continue to assert himself against other teams besides the dumpster fire that is Chicago.

He was sent down because he wasnt getting ice time. Pascal was on 960 this morning and said it was agreed between the coaches and management that he needed to go back down and play. Wouldnt shock me to see Hunt called up after this weekend.
