Rumor has it that they are also trying to convince Frank Mahovlich to come out of retirement.
For some reason they're also trying to trade for Sprague Cleghorn, not sure why because he'd be sent to prison in today's NHL

Had to look him up. If he hadn’t died 68 years ago I would be all in on signing him up. A little toughness always helps.

Trotz has already made some iffy moves in his short GM career but if he turns down Yager + Salomonsson and a 1st for a 32 year old centre on a team that isn't looking like it will compete during the next 2.5 years, then he should be fired on the spot

I'd do the Barlow, Heinola and a 1st in a heartbeat but any talk of our best prospects 1 for 1 is a no-go
Last thing Trotz needs is more young players to ruin.
He’s becoming Sid from Toy Story with how he treats young players.

He's going to be 34 in less than a month and while he is a "good fit" trading Yager, Salomonsson and a first is way too much IMO.

They could add another forward prospect and drop Salomonsson and then maybe the Jets pull the trigger.

I wouldn't include Yager or Salo. I'd *consider* Lambert, but it would depend on whether Ehlers is re-signing

I'd probably be the only Jets fan to say that though

I didn't realize the asks would be so high for an older guy on a team that's kinda adrift

I get the drift of what you are saying but the Jets window is now and ROR at $4.5 X 2years after this one is an investment worth taking IMO.

Then again I have a soft spot for an old Jets fan that I work with from the Peg and he deserves a SC worthy run with this group.

At the prices being offered here, I’d pass on ROR.
Definitely not trading Yager, Lambert, or Salomonsson for him.
I highly doubt he’d extend even if the Jets offered, so 2 years is too little to give up one of those 3 young prospects.
But I do think he’d be a really good fit.

I'm sorry man but you have to think about the window and 2 more shots after this year with the core.

I mean I'd trade a forward and not Salomonsson but you have to give to get.

It really doesn't matter.... Yager + Salomonsson + 1st is only illustrative of the magnitude of ludicrous offer that Trotz would still likely reject. A pretty good C and RD prospect are the things that would fit Nashville's needs, but O'Reilly is the apple of his eye, so he's still going to say no thanks. Those would have to be better prospects. Like surefire stars. Those might be your top two prospects, and yet they still aren't guaranteed to be impact NHLers. To overcome his infatuation with O'Reilly and break his promise to him, Trotz would need a much bigger prize. Which no sane GM is ever going to offer him.

So really, the message here should be read as "O'Reilly is unavailable". You can't really bargain down, since even the best most insane offer you wouldn't even dream of making would still be rejected. Sucks for both fanbases, but better to just move on and forget about O'Reilly.

I want Granlund more than I want ROR. The cost would probably be lower, too. Chevy doesn't trade his prospects, so barter accordingly.
You couldn't pick 2 different players. Even when Granlund was productive in Nashville it was in a way that seems to be less valuable to the team. ROR hasn't been as good this year, but he's still got that old man strength, the dog in him that you want in the playoffs. I'm not sure Granlund has ever had that. I will say I probably have a stronger objection to Granlund than most. I always hated that deal from the jump and never saw the infatuation with Granlund when he was here.

You want Trotz to trade a gritty guy over 30 who scores dirty goals? Lol you don't have enough 2027 draft picks to make that deal work.

Probably not. How is the live music scene in Winnipeg?

Tbf the live music scene in Nashville is only good if you've never been to Nashville for more than two days (and only if you like country cover bands). It's just any other city with regard to bigger acts.

Granlund should go back and play for his dad again in Minnesota. He's about to turn 33? Maybe he could get a 5- or 6-year contract there. :sarcasm:

Can't imagine this happens, but just for discussion, Nashville doesn't need a 1st. They already have 3 in this upcoming draft. So instead of a package where a 1st is the main piece, I'd think it's just a 1 for 1 for a good prospect.
Would Simon Nemec do the trick ?

Barlow + Heinola isn't much of an offer at all. Neither guy has lived up to his draft slot and both look like bad picks in hindsight. Bad pick status is already locked in with Heinola and Barlow is trending the same way. Peg is projected to have the 30th overall pick in the first round as of today.

That's only a so-so valued asset as well.

Could that be a 26 top 10 protected first? I’d take the deal as is, but we already have 3 picks in this years draft with 2 of them probable late in the round like your pick likely will be.
