True. But your only other hope to secure top 30 scorer is JVR who would take a long commitment. Sure he'd be (asset) free, but there's something to getting Lee and extending him. Lee in 4-5 years is going to be a more productive player than JVR in 4-5 years IMO.

Oh, ok.

I don't believe they should trade him either, but if they do I'm curious what NYI needs to move as the main piece.

Also MDC is not a RFA dman. And 12th overall is not a mid 1st.

I was thinking CdH for some reason. That said, MDC hasn't proved much.

12th overall is a mid 1st.

1-10 - early 1st
11-20 - mid 1st
21-31 - late 1st

Not that hard.

OP is an easy no from BUF.

I don't see NYI as the best trade partner for BUF, Beauvillier would definitely be of interest and NYI do have 12OA, but I think there could be other packages out there that would better suit BUF. Unless NYI are willing to overpay heavy

I think BUF fans should comment. (I'm a NYI fan)

I think NYI's trade offer would start with 40 goal scoring Anders Lee. He'd finish quite a few slick Middlestadt plays around the net. It would go on from there. Other than Barzal and Beauvillier, can open it up from there.

If Lee is not interesting to Buf, there's no basis for a trade.

This is the type of post I'm looking for.

I made it clear that I could be wrong so if 12th overall is not acceptable I'd like to hear what should be going the other way. Lee is an interesting piece, however with HFBoads obsession with devaluing players not signed to life contracts, I don't see Buffalo fans accepting Lee as the main piece given he's a year away from UFA.

Also judging by some of the posts in this thread it seems like people are tossing aside the 7.5M cap space they would gain without taking on any salary back.

Like I saw someone complain about MDC when he was literally just a toss in. That cap space is extremely valuable.

Would Sabres fans be still refuse if they were offered 12th overall + MDC + Stastny for ROR?

So 12th overall + Beauvillier + a tonne of cap space for ROR? That seems promising.

No ones going to look at a deal that way. There’s no guarantee the trading OReilly for that return automatically means we’re signing Stastny in FA.

This thread has been a pleasure. You thought Sabres fans were overvaluing RoR (we were, on purpose), so then you made your own thread to get confirmation of your own value of OReilly, only to have it completely dismissed by a majority of responders, undermining your own argument in the process.

I don't see Lee fitting the type of winger Botterill is looking for ..one thing he has herpes on since he got here is speed.

Edit. Wow what an auto correct. Herpes equals harped lol

Lol. That went from personnel to personal.

Fair enough. Lee is not fast. He's not that slow, but his acceleration isn't great. None better in front of the net tho.

I agree, but the point is that 7.5M cap will always be extremely valuable, especially to a team like the Sabres that will have a lot of big raises coming up over the next few years.

I won't bother responding to the second part at your attempt to derail this thread, lets try and keep this thread informative instead of being filled with your trolling.

So looks like 12th overall + a good prospect + cap space for ROR seems fair. Basically just need to determine if it's Bellows/Hosang/Beauvillier being added.

That seems a lot more realistic than hearing the same Boeser/Pettersson nonsense in the other thread.

Appreciate the unbiased posts, thank you all.

It's not valuable when that cap is for one of your best players and he is worth said cap.

HFBoards isnt devaluing 1 year contracts. They are simply and irrefutably less valuable.

That's a ridiculous analogy.

Buffalo can sign Stastny in 3 weeks, without losing ROR.... there's over 20 million in cap space. And Reinhart is the only relevant RFA contract they need to sign.

.

Wait... now you're saying the cap space is valuable because of it's use 2-3 years in the future? I thought we signed Stastny with that space.

Sorry. You're cap space argument is a complete non-factor in a ROR trade discussion. It may play a role in a contender/cap strapped team that needs space.

It's not. And literally no one in this thread said that.

12th is a relatively irrelevant piece in a ROR trade.

Buffalo isn't looking for lottery tickets in return for a proven top line player.

Have to say that based on the scenario of Tavares not returning the OP has done a fine job of identifying a suitable replacement target.
