Julien would be the happiest man in the world if the Habs landed ROR. I know this much.
I would be very happy too hell it would be better than having drouin in centre! But I'm looking at a perspective of a Stanley cup. I just don't see that happening just with ROR

Habs fans don’t want to offer any of the listed players in this thread...so you should stay off the drugs.

I am a Habs fan and i would trade Pacioretty and Mete/Juulsen + 2nd pick for ROR. Habs need centers badly and unlike GHJimmy, i fully understand getting two top 6 enters, good enough to get us to the state of contenders, won't hanppen in one summer.

Pacioretty wouldn’t be enough with Mete unless the Sabres intend to flip him to another team.

If the Habs intend to pursue ROR, a cheaper deal can be made before July 01st. ROR is paid all but $1M of his upcoming season’s $7.5M salary upfront. Kind of a guarantee of any future player/owner lockouts.

Pacioretty is of little value to Buffalo. 1 year away from UFA, and too old to fit the team's timeline. Not gonna get you ROR. Honestly, if Buffalo were to move him, Montreal doesn't have the pieces I'd want. If we move O'Reilly, we need multiple (fairly) young NHL pieces coming back, with the idea that we might get better as a team by replacing one great player with several good ones. For me, the package would need to include two of: (1) A goal-scoring LW; (2) a defensively responsible 2/3C; (3) a defensively responsible top 4 D. And then possibly some picks and prospects on top of that, depending on the precise players, their age, what type of term they have left, etc.

That's a reasonable ask. Only combo I could really think of would be Galchenyuk + Juulsen. Not sure if it would be enough for O'Reilly, but I don't think the Habs are in a position to offer much more than that. Quality depth/prospects are already a scarce commodity for the habs

This is a terrible deal for Buffalo.

ROR has produced at a 64 point/82GP pace the last 3 seasons. Then you add the fact he is pretty damn strong on the dot and has strong defensive acumen/corsi numbers relative. This is brutal.

early 2nds+dime a dozen G and W prospect...SOOO ENTICING

What does it take to get this done?

35OA + 38OA + Lindgren + Lehkonen

Sabres are weak at wing, where the Habs have depth. Lehkonen is likely to break out and has a great shot. They stockpile some early 2nds, and get a future stud G.

I don't see a ROR to Montreal trade that one side or the other doesn't dismiss out of hand.

And honestly, given the Sabres winning the Dahlin lottery, the idea of ROR for D doesn't make sense.

So, unless ROR is a locker room cancer, I doubt he gets moved.
