Hintz isn't UFA until 2024, so Dallas will try to win with him in the core in the next year or two. If it gets to summer 2023 and the team stinks and he doesn't want to extend, then he'd be on the trade market and be a huge target.

I don't think two top 10 picks would be excessive, generally speaking.
Hintz will be an RFA not UFA

So we’re talking about a number 1 center scoring just under a point per game entering his prime . No chance Dallas is trading him but just for sh**s. Edvinsson + berggren + unprotected 1st .

I don’t see why he wouldn’t be available. Contract expires next season I think and Dallas is unlikely to make the playoffs this year let alone the next.

I’m not even a Wings fan but lol

Dallas is unlikely to make the playoffs? I mean yeah they could miss but they are currently ahead of Vegas, just got Miro back, and have 3 games in hand. If you were betting you would say they are extremely likely to make the playoffs.

Hintz isn't available.

Dallas would be insane to trade Hintz. Not only is he a vital part of their first line, but his contract is dirt cheap and he's RFA when it expires. His 3M cap hit alone gives him tremendous trade value.

Btw I'm also pretty sure he's a great locker room guy. When Finland won the WJC back in 2016 Hintz usually gave the best interviews (along with Laine) and he seemed like an overall great guy. I think he could play his entire career in Dallas.

There’s a whole camp of Wings fans that are delusional enough to think we can just solve our center issues by trading for one, then they come up with unavailable trade targets like Hintz. Dallas has zero reason to trade him. Even if they entertained the idea, they’d ask for more than he’s worth, so basically a kings ransom. Teams don’t give up top 6 centers unless there are unfavorable internal circumstances.

Would you give Raymond up for a young top 1c? After all, centre seems like a better place for building the team than wing.

Absolutely I would. Only guy I wouldn’t give up for a young 1C is Seider, cause we need D as much as centers, and I view the positions similarly in terms of value, so that feels a lot like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

What's the lol? Apart from adding lottery protections to the pick, that's a reasonable trade for a player of Hintz's caliber. You are hoping that Edvinsson gets to his level, and I think we can both agree that Hintz is still improving.

Trading for Hintz doesn't make sense for Detroit, but that doesn't mean that this wouldn't be a fair offer.

Does the 1st come with top 10 protection? Otherwise, two top 10 picks seems excessive. One doesn’t but two?
That’s a starting point. DET adds to even get the conversation rolling.

Besides, Hintz is not available.

What the hell do people think a 25 year old, near PPG, goal scoring center on a great contract with team control when it expires is worth?

Edvinsson and 1st might not even get it done, but it makes Dallas think about it.

The thing with Hintz is that “near PPG center” doesn’t even really do him justice. You don’t have to watch him long to see just how freakishly talented he is - that combination of size, blazing speed and silky hands is really rare. He’s got space to improve even more and to light up the counting stats that people rely so heavily on in their conceptions of a player to an even higher degree.

I remember when Jamie Benn was ascending and people realized he was excellent but having the conversation - “guys, just wait - he’s not even done developing…wait until this huge dude with crazy skill realizes how much he can dominate”. I view current Roope in much the same way. I think he’s got some top 10 scoring type seasons in him.

You’re asking for two top ten picks. Two. Two. That offer easily gets it done. Detroit won’t make it. And I’m an Avs fan. I absolutely hate the red wings. But come on.

That and the fact that he is an amazing defensive player. That part of his game gets so often overlooked. He creates chances and kills them for the opposition, while only 25. Yeah he isn’t available for “two top ten picks”.
