Rogers Arena upgrades featuring insanely huge jumbotron.

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Canucks should add additional seats by hanging people from the ceiling like in a giant carnival sky screamer swing ride.

Don't order too many beers though, because you gotta hold it.

This looks like a parody... are rich diners going to be complimenting/insulting the sweaty players as they walk through the dining room?

And then they just watch the game on TV from a restaurant that happens to be in the same building where it's being played?

How much a plate for us to Tortorella Rick Tocchet if he starts benching Kuz for no reason again

"Along with the video board, a new video 'ring beam' will extend around the entire bowl, delivering high quality game information, messages, and animations."

Does anyone know when this will be done? Will it be there at the start of the 23/24 season like the jumbotron? And what's the video ring beam going to look like?

I could be wrong but the video ring beam is the continuous display that wraps around the arena on the balcony face at the first row of the upper bowl. Sounds like they are upgrading it to a higher quality display, so it will have a higher refresh rate, higher pixel density, brighter, fuller color gamut. Typically they are a lower quality display that are used mostly for marketing during games, and then they will play things like "LET'S GET LOUD!" and have graphics that fire around the arena. It will also likely involve upgraded software that runs the graphics, so it may be able to be programmed in more creative ways for better eye candy.

These upgrades HAVE to be done by the start of the season, this is where they get a ton of marketing revenue during games. Its not really a thing where they can do half the ring beam now, and half next year, as the marketing teams have to create content for them, so it would be very complicated running chunks of two separate ring boards, if that is even possible. I can't imagine them starting the season without the jumbotron, either, and I'm pretty sure its already installed.

Ooooh so it's just that thing hahah I was excited thinking it was something entirely new. I'm quite into architecture as well as tech so I'm excited to see the new jumbotron in person next month. I think we have one of the ugliest arenas in the league from the outside, our on ice presentation is one of the better ones though imo. I love the LED stanchions, wish my team (Rangers) had them at MSG

"Video ring beam" sounds like something far cooler than what it is, for sure lol. I think it will look good though, if they can program some dynamic visuals around the ring, it will be pretty fun. Fun from a marketing and experience design perspective as well. The new jumbotron looks pretty amazing IMO.

I'm excited for the new jumbotron. If it was up to me, it'd be even bigger. Like obnoxiously big. Unnecessarily big. Have to move the banners to the ends of the rink big.

I'm guessing more that parking lot across Pat Quinn Way from gate 16.

It SHOULD be where the Plaza of Nations building is now. Place is essentially useless.

Back in 2018 they approved a new practice facility at the Plaza of Nations. You’d have to wonder if inflation + covid made a dent on those plans.

That was what over a year to have shovels hit the ground?

One poster suggested that maybe the Canucks and Aquillinis expected that the Canucks brand would be enough to limit their "cash" investment in the project. Like if it was going to cost say $80 million, instead of going in 50/50, they expected an 80/20 split of the costs because the Canuck's brand would be worth the 30% difference to be associated with the team.
