Obviously, 3 on 3 overtime and shootouts helped, but getting there in only 488 games is very impressive.

Kind of tough to say that when Washington was stacked with all-stars and elite talent for many years… and also that ovechkin guy where as the Canes have always been a team that has overachieved based on roster talent and a lot of turnover.

They haven’t won the cup yet in his 6 seasons as coach so if that’s you’re point then that’s acknowledged but the Canes also weren’t a top team in the league until his 3rd season. His first year as coach the Canes were projected to be generally pretty terrible and they scraped their way to an 8th seed and upset the defending champs (Capitals) in the first round. Making it miraculously to the ECF.

Rod is absolutely beloved by the players and he gets the most out of them to be competitive every year.

Don’t really think the Boudreau comparison is very apt as Bruce had generally started off very week with new teams (Vancouver not withstanding) and then wore out his welcome and fizzled.

With the roster he has he should have won a couple of cups by now. His result in playoff is just bad. I would open a bottle of some drink when he is finally fired. And I am not even a Canes fan, but I just can't stand his "ping pong" hockey.

His incessant whining is irritating yet effective but that does not take away from his coaching. Phenomenal system coach who has a roster of hard work types and makes it formidable.

He's literally said that he couldn't see himself coaching elsewhere. If I had to bet on his next coaching job after the Canes it would be coaching kids in Raleigh.

They all say that until they see a brinks truck parked outside their house, then suddenly they realized they still have more to give

I’m not going to argue that his teams have constantly fallen short against the likes of Boston, Florida, Tampa, NYR in the playoffs since Rod has been coach. What I will push back on is the belief he’s had a roster that demands multiple cups in his six years so far.

St Louis and Vegas you could argue are the cup winners over the past six years that are anywhere close to comparable to Carolina, and the main difference there is that Carolina has yet to see a goaltender go super saiyan in the way you need when you don’t have elite offensive talent like Colorado had.

He'll coach elsewhere before all is said and done.

Of course we're all speculating but I really don't think so. I'd bet you're both basing your opinions on coaches in general rather than anything specific to Brind'Amour, and while I won't dispute that's usually the case, I'm basing my opinion off of Brind'Amour in particular and what we know about him.

One other thing he's said is that coaching has to be pretty detrimental to one's health (presumably due to stress, travel, etc) and he's extremely health conscious. I could see him taking on a different role within the Canes organization but I'll be very surprised if he coaches another NHL team. But like I said, we're all speculating; only time will tell.
