If only there was a center prospect in Buffalo that they could send down for a spell.
But there isnt.

Extended our Thanksgiving weekend trip at the in-laws to catch this game. Wish I hadn’t. I figured it was going to be rough when I calculated their arrival time into Allentown after Friday night’s game. Houser deserves a medal for what he had to face behind that defense on Saturday night. Other observations:
-Kulich has “it.” In addition to his great shot, he moves well off the puck in the offensive zone. He will be a nice middle-6 winger for BUF, perhaps by the end of next season. Has some stuff to clean up (lazy backcheck on LV’s 5th goal), but one of the few bright spots.
-I’d have to see a shift chart but it seemed like Rosen got benched for the first 15 minutes of the 3rd. He was getting a talking to by Appert after a lackluster shift in the 2nd.
-Clague. Woof. Really, all the defensemen were terrible in that game. That Laaksonen can’t break into that rotation is pretty damning.
-Murray and Mersch played hard all game. Good to see.
Again, probably not a representative game given the travel and 3rd game in 4 nights. At least I hope that wasn’t representative of their usual performances. Burn that tape without watching.
Eh I don't blame the guy for chasing more money. There's some team that will pick him up and it really doesn't hurt Buffalo or Rochester that much.Loser.
He's not chasing more money. No one would pay him more than Buffalo to play in the AHL. Maybe he can find a better work/life balance in a European league - Sweden or Swiss. I think someone mentioned that above.Eh I don't blame the guy for chasing more money. There's some team that will pick him up and it really doesn't hurt Buffalo or Rochester that much.

I doubt it was the two-way deal and the money part. I think it is the lifestyle difference between the NHL, the AHL, and European leagues.I think the issue was the AHL salary
20/22 he go $700K for either NHL or AHL
last year he was paid$850K playing either
this year it was a two way where nhl was above the floor a lityke but the AHL portion was half ehat he made thr prior two year With it being just $350K

It's less a monetary thing as it is a quality of life thing.
Interesting. I thought the $950 was guaranteed. I can't imagine he has any other NHL options, or else they would have picked him up on waivers. Maybe $750 on-way where he'd play in the NHL? Doesn't seem likely.I think the issue was the AHL salary

He's made almost 20 million in his career, I don't know that it was the money.I think the issue was the AHL salary

I know it wasn’t releasedNot what he relayed was the reason.

Last season he only played 4 AHL games and spent most of the season with the Kraken. The last time he really had to do the whole up/down thing between leagues was almost 10 years ago. I'd imagine with a young child at home the uncertainty was more of an issue than the actual pay.
I know it wasn’t released
2 yrs ago from KA he got an equal AHL/NHL salary. This go he got a higher NHL salary but his AHL salary was less than half of what itwas2 yrs ago.
unsure what was said in summer negotiations when he was signed. He probably is ticked when they claimed Jost and sent him down
He and his wife have a newborn and it's the Rochester-to-Buffalo commute and the time away that were given as the reasons. He's very big on mental wellness - stepping away to be with his family is definitely a mental wellness/quality of life decision.
