Anyone care to lead a little intermission storytime about how we ever lost the Amerks as an affiliate? Those years are a little fuzzy for me. Hard to believe there was a time we shared the Portland Pirates with Florida.

The vibes are so good right now.

Off the top of my hear - The Amerks had been bought by Steve Donner and the Sabres pulled back from providing a fully stocked team due to Golisano economics. Eventually when their agreement was up, the Amerks had had enough of the Sabres/BTG cheapskate BS and said they were going fully with Florida, leaving Buffalo to find a different affiliate (Portland Maine).

Actually the Sabres shared the Amerks with the Panthers from 2005-2008 before the Panthers became their sole parent club in 2008. The Sabres walked away from the Amerks due to the awkwardness of the split affiliation (which apparently was the Amerks/Steve Donner's idea) and the Amerks financial insecurity at the time (Again, see Steve Donner)

The Amerks began a dual-affiliations with the Panthers a few years prior which the Sabres did not appreciate. They ended up going with their own affiliate in Portland and the Amerks became soley affiliated with the Panthers. It was easily the worst stretch of Amerks fandom in my lifetime.

Also Golisano was a penny pincher and wasn't up to deal with the Amerks financial issues at the time. Thankfully Terry righted that wrong a few years later.

Was this guy in Cinci?

They signed him to an AHL level deal at the end of last year. His collegiate game was very much what he's doing right now for Rochester - faceoffs, energy, PKing, wall play. He was captain in his fourth year at Denver, then went to Providence for a fifth year which was where they signed him from last spring. AHL/ECHL stats are hard to find, but I have heard them mention his faceoff percentages as being really, really good.

Part of it was also due to Buffalo being unwilling to pay for a full compliment of AHL players.

That's not to say there wasn't tension with Gage as GM trying to find players to make the Amerks better and fighting with not just one but two parent clubs trying to get their prospects ice time. Gage had a knack for finding some good minor league guys who fit during his time as the Amerks GM but it was just too much to try to serve two masters.

my smart tv apparently has a youtube app built in but i have no idea how to enter the "tag" to watch it up there

Are you able to sign into the YT app on your own account? If so, go to YT on your account on your computer, then go to it on your TV and find it in history.

The easiest way is to find the game on YouTube on your phone and hit the "Cast to TV" button on the lower right part of the video UI. You may need to pair your phone to your TV in order to do that though.

Fair warning, the games are streamed a 720P (and not the best quality) so on a big screen it might not look the best.
