Rochester Americans and Jacksonville Icemen 2024 Season Thread.

Momentarily distracted, missed RFS opening the scoring with his 12th on the powerplay. Amerks 1-0.

Cole Reinhardt nudges Levi after an easy save/freeze. Brannstrom back in the lineup gives him a quality cross-check in response. Yeees.

Dunne gets a shorthanded breakaway but gets tracked down as he reaches Merilainen without a shot nor any penalty on the Sens.

Sens carried more play, in part to two powerplays to Amerks' one, shots are 13-8 after one.

Murray drives the net and the puck deflects in off of him with 1 second left in the 2nd period. What a ballbreaker for the BSens. Fiddler-Schultz took the shot on goal, picks up his 2nd point of the night.

The most idiotic rule in hockey history, somehow even worse than the instigator. It's LITERALLY THE SAME GODDAMNED THING AS AN ICING SO TREAT IT LIKE ONE.
It pisses me off at playoff time even more because they let guys murder each other and don't call anything, but then because delay of game is cut and dry, they have to call it. It ends up being huge in so many games.

Nope. God I hated back in the 90s (I think) when teams would just deliberately put the puck over the glass whenever pressed defensively. They did it so much, and it slowed down games so, so much, that it had to become a penalty.

Sucks when accidental but its much better than going back to those days.

Yeah, every time I go to KBC and look up in the rafters and not see the 2006 Stanley Cup Champions banner I go "well, at least the pace of play was made slightly better".

Again: Exact same thing as icing the puck.

No, it's not. You don't get to change tired players out if you simply throw the puck over the glass. It's a return to the dead puck era of hockey.

No thanks.
You just came up with the fix without the dumb penalty: Treat it exactly like an icing (which is what should've been done in the first place as it's effectively the same thing).

Interesting proposal. I'd be for getting rid of it - the puck over glass penalty is far more infuriating as the victim than it is satisfying as the beneficiary.

But I've long thought that a one-minute penalty should be instituted for things like this. Two is just far too long. Hell, throw a one-minute penalty on icing from the defensive zone too. See if it creates some offense.

So with the Thunderbirds getting bounced in six games, will Ratzlaff be joining the Amerks as part of a group of black aces for their playoff run?

Same with Simon-Pier Brunet now that Drummondville is out of the Q playoffs - is he going to join?

Amerks have a couple of bodies in Prow, Jagger, and Kisakov but it's not like they couldn't use some more bodies in the practice roster to help give people the day off. The only other CHLer possible is Ethan Miedema and he's still alive with Kingston in the OHL playoffs.

This coaching staff is so competent. I wonder which of the coaches on the Amerks and Sabres are Adams guys and which ones are Karmanos guys.

It’s hard to reconcile that the same people who found this Amerks coaching staff also thinks the Sabres coaching staff is good enough, and think that Appert is the next big coach in the NHL.

There is also looking back on the Leone hire and people talking about the team who were so critical of it without looking at his body of work and subsequently how well coached this Amerk team has been. There were cries about nepotism hire and such - the guy has again been good at improving his players and getting results just like he did at the USHL level. He's maybe not as smooth in front of the press huddles yet, but man... watching how they play vs. the mess that is the Sabres and it's clear that A) he has buy-in from everyone and also B) the depth guys are there to play the right way.

Not sure from the Leone interview if Helenius is going back on the wing tonight. He mentioned Dunne would be playing up and with Jobst already part of their top 2 centers, I would think that means Wahlberg as 3C and Slaggert at 4C since RFS has been so good as the glue guy doing the dirty work in the top six of late.
